I'm noticing a big difference between 16 thumbs and 20 thumbs. Pretty much required: good lighting/photographer, good pieces, and a good eye for combinations.

Just for my curiosity, do people think these two are equally good?

Yeah, the top was for a challenge. I suspect many of the thumbs came from degree of difficulty attempted.

Pretty much required: good lighting/photographer,

This is one reason I will not feature on this list! I'm not complaining - in the past, I really haven't been bothered to go through all the effort involved and my partner just thinks it's all ridiculous. I may try to get to do a little better back when I'm at home in the summer...

The goal is to have discussion, or at least that was the initial motivation.

The initial proposal was made by TweedyProf on the the WAYWRN thread a couple of days ago, and seconded by Institches, Sugarbutch, and others; q.v.

Cheers,

Ac
Cool, thanks for clarifying.

And thanks, Claghorn, for all the work involved in putting in the posts -- seeing some old favorites.

In this one, though I like the tie against the jacket, I'm not sure if the square would beat white linen in the same context -- maybe there's something going on up close with the square/tie that's not coming through in the long shot. The socks are very elegant.

I actually think this is quite a great example of a white shirt with blue stripes (as opposed to a blue-and-white striped shirt) working very well. That's an issue that's been hashed out in the good taste thread, so who knows what bringing it here will do?

Edmorel, I'm afraid I don't -- though the first takes the idea as far as it will go, the second just works. I do like that red tie against the glen plaid, though.

EFV, in post #7, I think you're doing crewneck with tie very well. The jacket doesn't seem to agree with the sweater under it -- it's cut a bit too slim for that. I almost wish for more contrast between jacket and sweater. Part of me thinks you could take something similar (maybe with a striped shirt) and wear a Fair Isle vest under it to go 100% PRL (well, 99% PRL).

I much prefer the second one. The first one looks a bit forced in order to be able to compete in the odd vest Friday challenge.

This is what i'd prefer to see in this thread: select two comparable fits and discuss why one works better than the other or vice versa.
@Claghorn no offense, your effort is very much appreciated, but I'm afraid now we're just creating a HOF of a HOF. I believe that wasn't the intention?

More of a positivist repository--a reflection of the forum's taste as a whole (or at least a significant subset of it) rather than that of some individual member, no matter how impeccable his taste.

Outside of that, there isn't anything wrong with a true HOF...WAYRN isn't selective and anybody can post whatever they want. Here, with everything neatly clustered, it's easier to notice patterns in what is generally liked.

That being said, this thread is for people to do whatever they like with. Your idea is an excellent one.

So good, in fact, that I went back in time and posted it on the first page of the thread!

The floor recognizes that you are before your time. Also, cross post that sweet gothninja get up in here (I think you were walking down a hallway?). I'm sure it got more than 20 thumbs on the other side.

That being said, do you think there is anything to be said for including 65+ thumb pics from SW&D occasionally?

One thing that strikes me about what's been posted so far is the lack of robopose. There are a few, but there seems to be a lot of action shots/buttoning shots, and leaning shots.

Well, let's just say I would never have done the first fit if it wasn't for the challenge. I most certainly favour fit #2 by wide margin. Actually I wouldn't mind having fit #1 removed from this thread, especially since it happens to be the fist pic that shows up in the thread......
