Spring/Summer 1916 Suiting Samples and clothing catalogue

Thread Starter

Howdy y'all, I picked this up a couple months ago at an estate sale for a men's store that was going out of business and thought y'all might be interested in taking a look through it. The most interesting things are the oblique reference to the Great War on the first page and how many different ways jackets are buttoned in the illustrations. This seems to predate the sometimes, always, never rule. Link to imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/ocxNt

Feel free to save any or all of the pictures for your personal use but I'd prefer if you at least let me know before using them in a blog post or on a personal website. I'm also interested in suggestions on what to do with this. At 20"x18"x2.5" and probably 10-20 lbs, it's a little bulky and fragile for a coffee table book, but it's in such good condition it would be heresy to break it down to frame the (admittedly beautiful) illustrations. I've had suggestions to either donate it to F.I.T. or see if one of the Japanese tailors focused on Americana/Trad reproductions is interested.

Thanks for posting. It's always fun to look through things like that. As you said, a fashion school may be interested in it. If you're looking to sell it, I might be interested for my own collection.

That is a wonderful book. Thank you for posting it. I especially like the order form. The store copies of measurements on the left hand side are interesting to compare to modern sizes. People were so much smaller then!
