The roma looks meh on its own like that, but if you put a tie, it balances it out. Plus, you wont see the long ends of the roma if it's under a jacket, so its not actually 'visibly' that big

Points well taken, and the images I saw in this thread did have a jacket. They had several on the rack over my shoulder in the picture, but I didn't think to try it with one. Guess I'll just have to go back to NYC *throws hands in the air*.

 I just ended up getting a shirt with each collar. Ended up with the a roma spread, roma cutaway (normal and stiff), ivy bd.

I use ivy BD for all my casuals (linens, etc) that I wear without a tie, and for suits I use the cutaway/spread

+1 on the jacket bit. I agree the Roma looks very big on you there, but its scale will be reduced visually when worn with a jacket.

And @ccallis,

Any chance you can offer the Gizo MOP buttons, like these:

Any word on the collar updates as well? I decided to hold off my order as I thought the revised Presidential Spread would be perfect for me, but I'm so tempted to just order a Roma spread collar shirt in the meantime.

Roma is funny. In some photos it doesn't seem to have enough spread, in others with a jacket it looks great. I need to suck it up and just order a plain white twill to play with fit and collars.

I am in the same boat. Want to order a few, but I'd like to see what the updates do to the collars first.

@ccallis?

Which fabric should I consider for a workhorse white dress shirt?

I like the Crosby and the other one that's 100s, and then the Thomas Mason one for $160, which I don't think has treatment like the other two.

Also, I think I'll go first with the stiff Presidential collar.

Hi guys

Received a remade Proper Cloth shirt, looking for some fit advice.

The shirt is primarily going to be worn without tie and untucked, so I was thinking of reducing the length even further by up to 3 inches. Also, is there any way to reduce the excess fabric at the lower back? The shirt already has back darts... if I reduce the midsection I fear that it would become overly tight where my beer belly is.

Many thanks for any advice!

Honestly length wise you pretty much hit it spot on. I wouldn't go any shorter than what you have now. The front of the shirt roughly lines up with the ends of the sleeves. The rear also looks good with the shirt tail terminating near the center of the seat. You could maybe increase the bottom width so the fabric doesn't rest on the top of the seat but I really wouldn't be to concerned with it. As far as the fabric in the back I wouldn't be too concerned with it either. You have to keep in mind you are going to be moving around in the shirt not just standing like a statue, having some extra fabric in the rear will allow you to bend down comfortably. Not to mention you plan to wear the shirt untucked so it is a non issue. Lastly, be sure to launder the shirt a few times before deciding on any alterations. Hope that helps.

@FitPursuit

We all have different tastes, but I would personally keep that (lovely) shirt in the casual section of my wardrobe. The patterns are a bit large for a tie and frankly it looks better untucked, almost like a Western shirt.

Maybe see if they can trim up the waist area. Length looks great. I aim for halfway between the waistband and bottom of crotch. If shoulder seams line up right for you and fabric isn't too tight anywhere in the front, I'd say that's a solid shirt. I'm sure you'll tweak things as you order more shirts.

Will comment on untucked version (since you should keep it as such)

Great starting fit

Reduce yoke

Reduce cuff width

Maybe reduce sleeve length by a tiny amount

Do a soft ivy BD collar or something less pronounced if you're wearing it open without a sweater or jacket

Widen bottom length a touch

Keep in mind these suggestions may be pointless if fit changes upon washing. Wash it twice and get back to us before re-ordering

Many thanks @hrefab, @sacafotos and @wigglr for your constructive advice...I will keep the shirt length, and then wash another couple of times (it's been washed once) before making any decision.

Thanks again!

Once I tried it on, it wasn't quite the same on me (which is why I included some information on my proportions, including head size which I know to be somewhat smaller based on trying to find hats which fit). I thought it was a little disproportionate for me.

I'm 5"9 with a short neck, and the 1 1/2’’ front band height looked pretty ridiculous on me buttoned up. everyone's different....
