Ordered, received, and put to rest your concerns?

Or recently ordered and awaiting?

Stiff Roma Spread looks marvelous. I'd like the collar to behave like this:

Sexy arch!

Perhaps if you were shockingly frail, but, even then, I'd say almost certainly no.

I thought only the Roma cutaway came in stiff, not the spread.

The Roma cutaway is also a really nice collar, but I find the spread more versatile.

When I called Proper Cloth yesterday they indicated that only the Roma cutaway is available with both a fused collar and an unfused stiff collar.

For a dress shirt that's going to be tucked in, it's not a big deal, but for a casual shirt that's going to be worn untucked, this presents a problem as the very small hem is much more prone to wrinkling. Is there some reason why the hem is not stitched 1/4 from the edge like everything else? Or, moreover, is there any plan to change this in the future?

don't think I ever got an answer to this. @ccallis?

?

I imagine the bigger hem creates more bulk which shows through lighter pant fabric.

Just give the man a big ass hem like he wants!

I'm just talking about a normal size hem. What PC currently does is smaller than what every other shirtmaker seems to be doing.

I know, I have the same problem as you with my casual linen shirts.

While my wife and I were in NYC for a quick weekend trip, I took the opportunity to take a little field trip to PC and get measured in person. For the record - I have no affiliation with them - just read about them here and wanted to share my experience stopping in on the weekend).

Thanks very much to Paul for opening the doors first thing on Sunday morning to meet us (and for the coffee shop recommendation!). It's a really nice space with a big comfy couch/chair for my wife to wait. In the back is all the business space, some shirt storage, space for product photos, etc. Everything is done from here, with the exception of manufacturing. Also, it's really easy to get to from the N-Q-R train Canal St. stop.

I wanted to get the measurements done and hopefully avoid any major back-and-forth on sizing, so we did a set for a dress shirt, as well as a casual shirt. I also wanted to take a look at some fabrics and a couple of the collar styles.

With summer coming up, here are the two linens they have which I thought may be helpful to see side by side (also in different colours - these are just the whites). I like the price of the Redondo, but the coarser weave is not as nice as the Canclini. I would take a white linen in Canclini, but the Sky Blue Redondo would be ok. I just think the coarser weave isn't as good in white.

As to collars, I was curious about the Roma after reading a number of posts about it here. Here is the Roma Spread (top) and a President Semi-Spread for comparison.

I'm a relatively tall, lean guy (central dad-bod portion notwithstanding) at 5-11 and 170-175 lbs, and I think I have a bit of a longer neck and a smaller head. I thought the Roma was way too big for my neck, coming up just shy of my jawline making me feel like Don Cherry. The President wasn't too bad - I may consider it, but the English Spread would be quite fine for me as well.

Not a thorough going-over by any means as we were only there for about 30-40 minutes and had other things to see before catching a flight home. I enjoyed the space though, as well as meeting Paul, and I'm looking forward to looking through the options on the site for an order...

I just find the Roma much more interesting in my opinion. I see what you're saying but I prefer interesting/unique sartorial touches over something generic.

And thank you for your review. Glad it was a good experience

I don't disagree. I have seen some photos here where it looks great, which is what had me wanting to see it in person. Once I tried it on, it wasn't quite the same on me (which is why I included some information on my proportions, including head size which I know to be somewhat smaller based on trying to find hats which fit). I thought it was a little disproportionate for me.

I think you could pull it off! The other may be a bit better for your proportions as you say but still think the Roma is do able if you wanted to try it for a dress shirt w jacket!
