Anyone own an Audi A4/A6??? - Page 2

*disclaimer*

I prefer Audi a.k.a. small tank to MB and BMW

With that outta the way, lemme say the following. Unless you have an image to maintain ( with whomever ) via owning a German motor, I'd seriously look @ a used Subaru Outback.
I drove Outback and Forester back-2-back, and it was simply day-n-night. The Outback damn near felt like a Jag; especially after the Forester's hay wagon of a suspension and " solidity "
They're assembled in IN, are fairly reliable and, I believe, run on regular. There's no turbocharger to take a shi'ite on you, plus you'd probably save 30-plus % in terms of ownership cost.
Buying a used high-end German vehicle potentially carries severe monetary risks. So unless you brother-n-law owns an independent shop, I won't touch those with a barge pole.
Matter of fact, few years ago Subaru even offered Outbacks with optional MOMO steering wheel/switchgear and a haul-ass Mcintosh sound system.

We've had really good luck so far with used German cars, as
far as no stuff breaking.

I can say also if I had been in some little rice mobile when
maniac monster truck dude totalled my 99 BMW, i would
have been seriously, seriously fked up.

As it was, I was only seriously fked up

Anyway, there is a lot to think about when buying another vehichle.
Just food for thought.

Parents have a 2002 Audi A4 Avant as one of our cars. So far it's been pretty good (we bought it new, though), except for a few minor problems. Their is a problem wit hthe battery or the starter that no one has ben able to fix: on cold days, you have to start the car and immediately get the revs up. If not, it won't start. We also has a freaky experience in the winter when our rear window shattered while parked in our garage. This I believe was fixed under warranty after my father brought in some posts from audiworld.com with similar problems to the dealer.

I've never had any problems with the A6 besides the satnav crashing a couple of times. After 2 years everything still works as it is supposed to and we still love the design and MMI which is just lovely to work with, it's so easy .

Long story short: they've got a bunch of Audi-related forums out there. Go read up as much as you care to, and draw your own conclusions.

Thanks everyone.

I was told by iammatt that if I got an Outback, I wouldn't be allowed to post here anymore

Actually, after giving it some thought and reading the comments here and on edmunds and one of the audi forums, I went and got an '04 A6 S line, which has the biturbo engine and a bunch of upgraded junk. I went with a certified one and it has 35,000 miles on it so I get the balance of the 50,000 mile warranty plus another 3yrs/50,000 miles since its certified and maintenance is covered up to 75,000 miles. Assuming my check doesn't bounce, I'll be picking it up later in the week and I'll post a pic here. Thanks again everyone.

i drive a 2005 a4 3.0 and it's been very nice so far... and the audi warranty is pretty great. i'll sell it before it runs out.

Congrats on the purchase. Stick shift or automatic?

Never owned one but I have backed into a new A6, made the owner cry.

Enjoy it now, sell it before the warranty expires. I have come as close as you can to buying a BMW/Audi and just couldn't do it. Owning one out of warranty (which I would do as I don't buy cars and sell them <4 years later) scared the ever living shit out of me. I just don't make enough money to be able to shrug off the occasional 1k car repair.

Auto (I know, I know). Still have not picked it up, they are "certifying" it and in the meantime gave me an '06 A4 2.0T to tool around in. Me likey

My A6 is coming with a 100k warranty and free scheduled maintenance up to 75k miles. After that, what ever happens maintenance/repair wise, I really can't bitch about.

I am looking at buying a 2004 S4. I have always driven turbo cars, but a German V8 is just so tempting.

The V8 S4 has a very laggy throttle and is very heavy, so if you are used to driving aggressive and responsive sports cars, don't expect the highly refined S4 to replace the experience. I have an 07 Audi S4 Avant and a heavily modded 05 Subaru STi. The two cars are worlds apart, but great for their own applications.

Spend some time test driving the car to understand the driving experience of the V8 S4.

Well, the car to get is the RS4...
