Aunt May always looked about 95 in the comics, but Peter Parker became Spider Man as a high school kid.  Logically, his aunt shouldn't be that old.  Marisa Tomei is 51, which is about right for the aunt of a teenager.  The hotness is definitely a bonus.

I guess I never thought about that before. Is Aunt May supposed to be the sister/sister-in-law of Peter's parents, or is she a great aunt? It really doesn't make sense to have her be so old in the comics if she's not a great aunt.

Wasn't uncle Ben his dad's older brother by like 15-20 years?

I sort of appreciate that he doesn't seem to take himself seriously at all.

Suicides Squad looks to get a beating from the critics.

But for reasons beyond Ayer’s control, he’s beholden to the corporate vision of other recent DC adaptations, most notably Zack Snyder’s sleek-surfaced and oppressively self-serious riffs on the Superman legend.

It's just one take on SS, but it does play into my biggest concern of Wonder Woman and Justice League. Unless there has been extensive reshoots Snyder's influence will still be felt in Wonder Woman and while JL looks to be getting a lot of heavy handed guidance from the new people in charge of the DCU, it started as Snyder’s baby and he's directing it. It might not be till late 2017 and into 2018 that we start to see DCU films that fully move away from Snyder's influence.

Not to sound anti-DC because I really am not....but if "Suicide Squad" ends up being terrible (I'm talking BvS levels of terrible), I think I'm done with DCU movies in the cinema. I mean, I'll still torrent the shit out of them but no longer am I shelling out 50 bucks a year for a mediocre product. And it sucks because Wonder Woman is my favourite comic book character frown.gif

I've seen good and bad reviews. My own thought is that it's a flawed movie that some people are going to like and others aren't. I'll go see it and judge for myself.

I do feel at this point that some Marvel films are coasting on viewers good will. Take Ant Man. The film had fun moments, but was completely forgettable as a whole. The script was not very strong and the villain was a joke, yet many seemed to be willing to overlook these flaws. I'd agree with anyone that at this point Marvel has earned this good will, but it's important to keep this in mind when reading early reviews of new films.

DC on the other hand is struggling to earn viewers good will because of the overall reception of MoS and BvS. Both of which were not bad films, just flawed in many ways and not worthy of igniting much excitement in the general public. So DCU has a lot of work cut out for them to earn a similar good will as Mavel and their films will likely be scrutinized at a higher level.
