Oh, gd, man!... So I just caught the first full-length Terminator trailer, and it appears they decided to replace John Connor with a block of wood. I don't get it. Is the no one with muscles who can act? Does John Connor even have to have muscles? Its not the 1980s anymore. They should have just dried out Michael Biehn and recast him.

Otherwise, the whole simultaneous remake/sequel thing looks promising (though odds are it will suck).

Moving on, do we ever discuss comics here? Because

I've just begun reading (or trying to read) the X-Men canon -- at least as it's been presented to me via the Internets. And I have to say, I am fairly underwhelmed. Modern cape books just seem to have so much more going on in terms of dialogue and plot and characterization (not to mention all the meta-humor) than did the days of Claremont yore. I mean, I guess that's to be expected. But the way he is revered, I guess I was anticipating something more....substantial. (I did find the Classic X-Men series, which overlays newer, character-driven tales atop of the old, a bit more engaging). Maybe one of youse guys could drop some knowledge on me, let me know the best stuff to read. I liked Whedon's Astonishing a bunch, and I love Bendis's concept for the All-New X-Men (sort of like the Terminator movie), and am looking for the best the canon has to offer to fulfill a promise I made to an old friend, long ago.......

To me, my nerd-men!

Jai Courtney has only been good in one thing he´s acted in: Spartacus. He was great as Varro but ever since he jumped on the hollywood train he´s been the worst. He´s just a terrible actor in anything he is and he´s getting way, way too many roles. But he´s jacked and a good looking dude so that´s it.

I didn't find him offensive in Jack Reacher.

I actually think the basic premise of the new Terminator movie works very well. The whole series has been about time travel and changing the future, so why not use that to reboot the universe and start fresh? It's not like this means our Blu-Rays or Terminator and T2 will suddenly self destruct. They will always be there and if anything this feels a lot like what JJ did with Star Trek.

can only hope it doesn't suck. :uhoh:

Regarding your other points, I agree. Whedon's run on Astonishing was amazing. It's my favorite set of stories about the characters.

Oh, balls. Well, this is both heartening and disheartening. Looks like I started with the best; it's all downhill from here.

Just finished Grant Morrison's New X-Men, and while okay, I found it lacked those majestic small moments of humor and pathos that are Whedon's forte. Strange, considering that with Buffy, what should have been his home field advantage found him struggling with the medium. But his X-men came first. :puzzled:

It's good viral marketing, but I still can't bring myself to having faith in this Deadpool film.
