So far, Emory, LSE, Harvard. Undergrad ("international studies", i.e. internationally-focused poli sci), masters (economics), doctorate (history), respectively. In 2010, I'll have added a fourth, for the JD I'm starting this fall.

You could say that, I suppose, though I did also spend two years as a management consultant between the first two degrees, and two years as a professor that just ended. I'm going back for a number of reasons. I was frustrated here in a number of ways. I took this job primarily because it was the best gig that was geographically close to my mother; my father passed away shortly before I got serious about job-talks and Mum was diagnosed with cancer shortly thereafter. I didn't consider campus culture to the degree I perhaps should have. Also, I'm generally annoyed with this side of academia, and now that Mum's in much better shape emotionally and physically I really want to be living with my fiancee (wife in a few months!) for the first time since she left Boston for NYC four years ago. I suspect that I'll be done with school for good after 2010. I'm attending the "other" top 5 NYC law school, which is to say not the one from which my fiancee graduated but the other one.

Isn't Bowdoin known for a certain type of tree (pine)? (I played hockey there in my travels across the N.E.).

Started at Kutztown Univ (Philosophy Major) and finished at Albright College (Apparel Merchandising and Design). Paid for and financed by moi!

Both majors seem pretty worthless.

Yes. 'Neath the Bowdoin Pines is a common refrain. It is a lovely campus.
