Well my girlfriends graduation is friday and I am looking into buying her a pair of denimbirds as a present. These would be her first pair of raw denim. Is this a good idea? I dont know much about the brand other then they are the sister company or something of Nudie and I love my Nudies and so does she. Do you think I should get these or are there another girls raw denim I should get her. She really wants a pair of raw jeans so if anyone can have any insight for me that be great since time is working against me right now. thanks..

To know her size and to get the right style are entirely different things. I sell denim all day and I can tell mens denim is not at all the same as womens denims. You and I can buy based upon measurements, but to find denim that looks great in the bum, has the perfect legs, etc. is much harder.

right well she likes skinny jeans so thats the style I would buy basically this all seems like discouraging news but I know which style she likes and size and all that...so would you guys still recommend me not purchasing her a pair of jeans. I mean I've been with the girl for two years know her style know what cuts of jeans she likes, doesnt necessarily mean they will fit but big deal can be brought back...I dont know what to do. Should I skip the jean idea.

She may like the gift at first, but there's a high chance she won't be wearing it much a month later. Buying jeans, especially raw jeans, for girls is difficult. Especially since i've heard denimbirds stretch a fair amount. Sizing also varies more with more fashion brands like denimbirds, skulls, pbj women's model, slings and stones and so on than tr, sfam, coh, etc... So while she may be a 26 in american eagle, abercrombie and sevens, she might need a 25 in denimbirds, j brand, sling and stones or stuff like that. It's not that big of a deal for guys if jeans stretch or don't fit perfect, but for women, it makes all the difference in the world. Especially if you're gonna drop over $150 on them, they better fit spot ******* on. Just don't do it man. Raw denim doesn't really work that great on women anyway from what i've seen. There are exceptions, but it's much harder for them than us.

Instead of suprising her with a pair, why not offer to just pay for a pair, try to find some near you, or maybe try revolve, denimbar or somewhere else that does free returns and just keep ordering and sending back jeans until you get the right pair. Might take a few brands and few sizes in each to figure it out though. I'd just wait till you two take a graduation trip to new york, or some other big city where she can try on all the pairs.

edit: just read your response. It's much more than just getting skinny jeans in size 26. Every brand has a different idea of what skinny is. Especially if i can assume that you're both graduating high school, she might only have experience with mall brand skinnies. Even sorority jean brands like sfam, coh, tr and others are about the same as eachother. Then there is high fashion women's brands, where all the sizing is really different. And if you want to throw in japanese brands or small market brands like sling and stones and denimbirds, you're asking for missizing. You know from reading the forum that overseas brands are sized differently and that most everyone has sizing issues and questions with nudies, and denimbirds is made by them, so obviously the sizing is going to be difficult with those too. Plus women have to worry about more than just waist, inseam, f rise and hem. Every measurement on each inch of the jean matters considering all girls are built differently.

I offered to buy my girlfriend a pair of jeans for her birthday too, but she just flat out said no and never to try to do that for her. She basically said the same things i said. We went to a place with sorority jeans and she was a 28 in CoH straights, but a 27 in tr skinnies, and a 29 in something else, and it was all just weird. Some jeans would fit in the waist, but be weird fitting somewhere else. It's a big to do, to get perfect fitting jeans, which is what you want to get if you're spending almost $200. Buying american eagle, express and abercrombie jeans aren't a big deal because it's only $30-60

Diesel is up there in sorority brand, and i don't know about j brand(i just assumed it was more fashiony because kate moss wore them), but i'm telling you, in a few months, your thoughtful gift may not be getting as much wear as the other ones. Unless she doesn't mine a bit of sag in her skinny jeans. I personally don't mind it, but most girls just don't really enjoy when the butt and thighs aren't that tight, where they don't get the little curve at the ass.

I'm just telling you man, i've seen girls try on many different pairs of jeans in different brands, slightly different fits and different sizes before deciding on a pair. And girls know their sizes and favorite fit of jeans. It just isn't that easy. Girls really don't care about jeans being raw, as much as they do about precise fits and comfort. As picky as us SF and sufu guys are about fit, a few slightly off measurements never actually are noticeable on us. Do what you want, but i just think you can find a better gift than jeans anyways.

You seem like you're going to buy them regardless of the warnings anyways, so my only advice is to buy from a place like revolve that has a bunch of different brands and a return policy so she can exchange sizes and fits of denimbirds, and other brands for her to get instead with the return credit, as i've heard a lot of girls on sufu who had nothing but problems with them. There is a raw denim for girls thread over there, and you can ask them for some advice, but i still think it'd be best for your girlfriend to make those decisions since it's going to be big bucks.

Talk it over with her and have her be a part of the process if you're really serious about doing it because i'd love to get my girlfriend into raw denim, but it's something she's going to have to work with me to get into.

edit: just saw your post. I love denimbar as much as the next guy, but they don't have the most extensive women's collection. Revolve and some of the other forum affiliated webstores have more women's brands and fits. Most of them also have discounts as well.

I bought a pair of dry jeans for my gf about 3 months ago. It's from the Jean Shop. She loves it. If your gf is willing to wear them, I'm sure she'll like them. I say go for it.

My wife wears Skulls and loves them - they've become her everyday jeans. She has a pair of J-Brand cigarette legs as her 'dressy' jeans, not raw but very dark.

Personally I think she looks great in her old battered pair of Levis.

I dunno where you are located, but if it's near a Denim Bar or one of the other popular denim stores - make it a day trip out of it.

Buy her lunch or dinner and sit there patiently with a smile on your face while she tries on jeans for hours and picks out her favorite, she'll probably appreciate that more than the jeans themselves :)
