Russian Leather shoes.....

These are 7 years old. I wear them about once a week and I have them shined at work by a guy that uses kiwi wax. Nothing fancy. No expensive products. They seem to be just fine.

If the leather is in such short supply, why are they making wallets and umbrellas out of it? Seems to me they should be saving it for bespoke shoes (unless it's really not in such short supply).

I don't think a wallet or umbrella handle uses that much leather. Can probably be cut from the left over hide from shoemaking. Ultimately they'll make whatever a customer is willing to pay for, and I don't know that this leather is better suited to shoes or cases.

Not the real 1785 stuff, but St. Crispin's version of Russian leather..... still look good IMHO.

Kiwi is solvent based not the product to use on ancient leather. Try Collonil products.

Picked-up a pair of Stefano Bemer faux 1786 Russian leather oxfords... made with Horween leather but tanned in a proces similar to that used in old Russia...

Next to a pair of the real Russian leather salvaged from the Metta Catherina....
