HAIDER ACKERMANN FW2014

Some of the pieces definitely work better in the context of the brand, something I don't know too much about since I've not followed it too closely, but a fair number of pieces are absolute stunners by themselves. This is the coat in question (in a cheaper fabric - only $3000!) - minimalistic details, relaxed, relaxed silhouette, and a perfectly rolled collar that can be worn in a shawl-collar or "no-collar" and still protect the back of the neck. Haider Ackermann is on par with Stephan Schneider in that you have an immediately visceral reaction to the quality of the clothing due to the wonderful fabrics used and garments that showcase them immediately - it's just priced three times as high.

It's always struck me as a tough brand - either you go full on tilda swinton or you do...something else. Looking at the more basic pieces on the racks feels occasionally futile, like you buy the stunners and then you need all the rest to fill it in. I don't know if that's fair, since it's not really different from a lot of brands, and maybe speaks to the cohesiveness of the collections - the price makes it hard to appreciate at anything but a long distance though.

Women's silhouettes are great - and I've always been on board with the men's pants. Gives it all a more militaristic/maybe gaucho vibe.

Although I feel like this collection is probably the easiest so far in terms of trying to integrate pieces into an existing wardrobe. Camel tones, cashmere etc. The silky stuff in vibrant colors Dries on steroids kinda thing of past seasons was much more of a whole package deal than this stuff right here.


edit: Actually, since I don't care about his tiny bottoms and rock-chic shtick, I can totally see his coats/tops working outside the context of the collection.

I agree NN. That coat you posted is my favorite piece he's maybe every produced for men. Price is kind of crazy however.

The fw14 collection is definitely my favorite. Great pieces, excellent fabrics, and it all feels modern without going over the top with the styling he's so known for. I even like the footwear he made and those socks are kind of awesome.

not everything is absurdly priced. some of the knits this season are like $750, which is still expensive but not out of the ordinary for designer clothing (they're beautiful, by the way). The wool tunics are $600-$700—again expensive but not abnormal. and then yeah, you do get the coats at several $k and things like the washed sweatshirts for upwards of $1,000 that are kinda crazy. but there are some entry points.

i checked out the buys at IF and Barneys once they came in and I think as individual pieces it's some of the best stuff in stores right now. i found a lot i would love to own, including the pants, which i wasn't thrilled with in the presentation pics but after seeing them up close and trying them on i thought they looked great. of course more than anything i'd love one of the coats but that's not happening.
