What do you wear while shopping?

In today's world, the number of tracksuits, sweatpants and flip-flops one sees in the mall can be almost sickening. As we all know, standards of dress have declined quite a lot over the past 50 years. There are some holdouts (like this forum), but people have sacrificed style for simple comfort.

That said, when you head to the mall/Bergdorf/wherever, what do you wear? Jeans and a shirt? A three-piece? Is there any standard that you hold yourself to while clothes-shopping?

Discuss.

Depends on the occasion, really. If I'm going inside a dressier, more independent store, usually an OCBD with khaki pants. Never a tie, but a bowtie is appropiate.

To the large, "mega" malls.. Shorts and a polo/sperry's during the summer. Cleaner jeans and a OCBD/polo + nice shoes (not dressy, but not Nikes).

Its almost the same rule I follow dressing normally, but I will try to wear a more current style that is in the store at the same time to adept the more trendy environment. I like to find the shirt I'm wearing for sale in another store.

Trip before last: Monkstraps, jeans, casual button front shirt, khaki blazer. Picked up a safari shirt/jacket from Brooks.

Last trip: Chocolate suede boots, jeans, white polo, creme safari jacket.

IOW, Jeans, mixed up with some sort of jacket.

I always try to contrast my clothing with the store. So if I'm going to Saks, I'll wear my track suit and sandals, but if I'm going to Old Navy, I put on my Kiton and EGs. It's great fun!

Unless wearing something more formal would be helpful ie to my tailor then Jeans or cut offs, tee shirt and JBs or trainers depending upon the time of year.

I wear articles of clothing I would wear with what I intend to buy. That way, when I'm trying on the new item, I can see what it will look like as an outfit.

Whatever I'm wearing for the rest of the day.

But, I think the question is also implying if one dresses to try not be looked down upon by the sales associates as to not recieve the "Pretty Woman" treatment.
In that case no, plus all the sales associates know me and I get whatever service I need no matter what I wear.

In order to civilize the shopping experience we need to allow smoking indoors.

If they serve you alcohol, why not allow smoking? It's judiciously logical.

Can you imagine showing up at a store with about 6 guys all dressed like this? You'd shut it down.

Here I am when I went shopping at Neiman Marcus. Those trendster fashionistas didn't know what hit them:
