I went with no speed lacers, all regular eyelets. IMHO, the Shannon is too damn sleek for speed lacers.

Very very nice - the Shannon is easily my favorite boot. Hopefully mine should be in soon - 82 last as yours but in Dark Oak.

A friend of mine has exactly that. That may be next for me. I think I could get this in every color (apart from olive and blue). Plus, I will need at least one Shannon II.

I don't like lace-up boots. When you cross your legs and those laces show, the appearance is completely inelegant--one would much rather wear combat boots.

Would elastic gores be more elegant?

More importantly, are the posters using special boot trees or regular shoe trees? Anything special in the uppers to keep the shape?

Not in my case. Regular trees. I have a pair of blucher boots that have never had boot trees, and the uppers are holding up just fine.

A shorter pair of these would be nice. The front part is attached to the hinged foot, then the other two parts are put into place.

Disagree. There is a lot to be said for combat boots, but I prefer these.
