Balmoral Boot Porn - Page 9

I don't like nor get this type of boot. The vamp says "dress" and the rest of the shoe says "let's colonize India". With jeans or casual wear maybe but with a suit I just couldn't see it. The minute you sit down and all those eyelets and laces showing would be so distracting and just awkward. If i saw someone with them in a dress environment I'd think they were in the military and these were the only shoes they had to wear.

To me, boots and bal don't go together.

Balmorals originally were boots. The shoes were the later derivative - modified mostly for sports wear eg tennis shoes! Why wear tennis shoes with a suit?

The LL Carmina's really don't do it for me. The styling seems to be a bit bland, while the price is good but certainly not a bargain. If its cordovan that one is after, why wouldn't you just order this Vass boot:

Because it's a derby with lots of brogueing. The LL boot is a traditional Oxford boot. It's all about tradition.

The only boot, in my opinion, appropriate for a suit is a sleek Chelsea.

Well obviously tradition wasn't the sole consideration as the boot is being made in cordovan, with bordeaux/oxblood as one of the color choices.

There is a difference between tradition and historically accurate recreation of costume for historical re-enactment. The main thing is that there is precious little difference between the LL Boot and this from 1918:

Or why not get both? That was my solution.

Great suggestion. I would happily do just that. They are as different as chalk and cheese.

Fair point, but my take is that members are not ordering this boot for tradition's sake but rather to have a high-quality cordovan boot for rainy/slushy days. And the majority of people (even on the rule-bound forums) have no problem wearing derby's with suits.

If the boot looked more like the Shannon I would be sold. Perhaps more pics would help, as I know the basic design was meant to mimic the Shannon.

Or perhaps I shouldn't be so critical of a product I am not ordering. After all, I'm the guy with the green suede boots.
