What pictures of the Formosa?

If you're talking about mine, they're with the tailor getting the sleeves shortened.

Alright. Uh. So. Serious question. How has America changed since 2009. Y'all's needs to help me with reverse culture shock. I've spent about 2 weeks back in the US in the last 5 and a half years. So. Uh. I know everything revolves around smartphones now, like with apps telling people what's hip and shit. And I see a lot of weird haircuts on dudes with the sides all short and the top all Mad Men. And beards, I guess, are a thing? Do people still wear skinny jeans?

But yeah. Let me know what has changed.

This forum will probably have helped a lot already. It's pretty much my only link to the Western World (besides the Economist. My sweet, sweet Economist)

(1)  Beards are an SF thing, to be sure.  I can’t honestly say I’m seeing more of them in real life than I did in 2008, however.

(2)  The trend for broadcast news to think of itself as entertainment rather than journalism has deepened and accelerated.   Print (real or electronic) is where serious journalism is making its last stand, and even there cutbacks in editorial staff have resulted in a decline in the quality of writing, even in top-tier papers.

(3)  Jeans are all over the map in terms of their cut.  Yes, you still see a lot of skinny ones, but hugely baggy ones are around, too—a hip-hop influence, I suppose.

I live in a town dominated by a university, so I can’t say how typical any of this for the rest of the country.

Some things haven’t changed, however.  Texas, for example, is still too damn hot.

Cheers,

Ac

This is gonna be a metaphor for Claghorn's return to the USA...

What part of the US will you be in?

Interest rates are still darn low but are slowly creeping up.

Organic food is a big fad but labels are misleading.

Gasoline prices are high but people stopped complaining.

^ And Noodles is finally getting rid of suits that are too tight for him.

Does anyone else think that the pictures on Cappelli's site are just photos of the fabric cropped in the shape of a tie?

I couldn't access SF from my phone and was getting some weird looping error message. Maybe I've been banned.

Don't know but the ties look much better in real life.
