Rudals, you might get lucky and not have to adjust the length. They only had the slightest break for me.

correct. 1.75 for me, and i think that would be good for rudals. 2 inches might be a bit much for him right now.

i have very minimal break in all my pants. thats how i like it.

imo, erring towards having no break, and being a little high water, looks better than the pool of too much break. OTOH, when its too long you can fix it, but when its too short, if the fabric is gone, youre stuck with what you have.

What are some good colours for odd trousers?

I am thinking about ordering this charcoal grey...

Charcoal

start with mid to light gray. darker grays and charcoals are much harder to pair with SCs. if you are not wearing a SC, its not as bad, but not ideal, and also not great for summer. also, mid/light gray is a much nicer color imo.

If it were me, I'd do something like this:

If you only want one pair for year-round use, something like this:

http://epauletnewyork.com/collections/bottoms/products/driggs-super-120s-wool-trouser-mid-grey

http://epauletnewyork.com/collections/bottoms/products/slim-walt-trouser-super-120s-wool-medium-grey

If you want a pair for spring/summer/DC fall and a pair for winter, these two:

http://epauletnewyork.com/collections/bottoms/products/slim-walt-trouser-uk-donegal-tweed-salt-pepper

Not that they have to be Epaulet, of course, but it's not a bad place to start.

This ^^

I have a splendid pair of charcoal canali that are indeed difficult to pair up. Mid grey/light grey is the way forward, also consider some texture...

Those Epaulets are all a bit darker than what I like best.

Same here.

I'd reach for these instead:

i also prefer lighter, but as darker grays go, those pairs are pretty nice. would defo tell noodles to shoot for lighter.

Plain or microhoundstooth?

I think these two are good colours?

I used to think that, but I'm texture heavy on my SC's so it tends to be too much. I have a pair of mini houndstooth trousers not worn once. Just think about the SC(s) you'll be pairing with these @The Noodles as well as the ties that may be accompanying said odd SC.

yes, noodles. those are very nice.
