That's why!

I can't afford to spend some $1,000 on SS because I want to have all the funds ready for the Formosa when they restock.

If I get a SS or two, it will set me back. Let me try the Formosa 40R and if it doesn't fit right, then I can spend all that money on SS.

Ah. Alright. Then it makes sense. You should have made it clear. In that case, by all means, wait.

Thank you. Seriously, I hope people here understand.

Listen, I now know where to go if the Formosa isn't the best for me.

The La Spalla is about half the price of a Formosa, so it's worth waiting for the Formosas to restock and hope the 40R is better. Just make sure you're the first to buy them when they hit the site. In the meantime, maybe explore other options as a plan B?

I don't know if Eidos has a retailer in DC, but it's worth checking out. The Ring Jacket suits at The Armoury in NYC look very nice as well, especially their AMJ01 cut, and the fabrics are very interesting as well. I'm planning to check both those brands out when I'm in NYC, but I might just decide to stick with SP.

Does anyone have this one with a pic in the wild. NMWA Bigi

Edit: Found one, sort of:

I think my favorite among the Bigi's that remain. Similar to one from Shibumi.

Rudals, BUY THAT SUIT. NOW.

Sure, buy the Formosa as well, when it's been restocked. But you should not let this opportunity pass. The Formosa may or may not fit you well. It may or may not become your grail suit. But this one fits you, it's available, it's good quality, it's very good value. NO-BRAINER. BUY.

And if you need any further convincing, look at this SuitSupply suit of mine. I walked into the Shanghai store, spied it on the rack, tried it on, and bought it on the spot. The decision took one microsecond. Some things are just obvious.

But if he buys the SS suit now, he may not have the funds for the Formosa. And he knows his size in SS, and so if the SS store in Washington sells out, he can always order it online.

Still, if his next suit, following the Formosa, isn't that La Spalla.....:(

The smartass and NE fan in me wants to point out that Tom Brady was a 6th round draft pick and was completely overlooked by everyone before starting a HOF career as a QB.

If I were Rudals, I would also make sure that the 50R in Formosa fits well. Just because the 48R was a bit tight does not mean the 50R is going to be the holy grail. Rudals now knows for a fact that certain fits at Suit Supply work for him in a particular size and look better on him than any suit he owns. I understand wanting a good quality suit and that is fine, but I sure hope he tries on a 50R in Formosa before deciding to wait 3 months to try something that may not fit him. I can attest to the quality of Formosa having tried them on myself during the trunk show, but they're not going to look good if they do not fit. I do not understand the "this fits and looks good on me but I don't want to buy it because I might find something better in 3 months even though I don't know if it will fit me" crap. Rudals, if you've tried the 50R Formosa and it fits to perfection and I have somehow missed this, please disregard this paragraph.

There's no cost to him holding off though. There will be plenty of La Spallas available if the Formosa doesn't fit as he'd like it to. On the flip side, if he gets the SS:LS right now, he won't be able to get the Formosa when it comes in and won't know if any Formosas will be in stock when he is able to afford one again.

He just did a terrible job explaining himself, but Rudals' head is on straight.

^ I get the sense that there's a bit of jumping from one holy grail (OMG Zegna) to another (OMG Formosa). Even if the Formosa fits him perfectly, he's probably not buying 5+ of them and he is ultimately going to need to get at least 5 suits. If buying a single suit from Suit Supply will disrupt his Formosa plans, then I suspect 5 Formosas may not be a realistic goal either. I am all for patient wardrobe acquisitions and will gladly admit to having made some mistakes myself in the past due to haste and desire to buy certain things, but I don't know if foregoing something he knows works for him and is economical in lieu of something that may not work for him and is less economical (as awesome as Formosa is) is wise.

Hypothetical situation here (not so hypothetical since Rudals was looking at a skinny Borrelli recently). Let's assume that La Spalla suit is actually a Cesare Attolini and it costs the same 1000 dollars. Would we be having an economic justification here? No.

There are things beyond rational justifications when making luxury purchases and it seems Formosa (40r fit still untested) checks all the boxes for Rudals and you know what? It is perfectly Oh K.

And just for the record, I think the Formosa jacket too will look good on Rudals but the pants may need some work. Rudals needs to start squatting.

True. Rudals probably would've purchased the Attolini in that case. But it would have been a mistake if, as is the case with SS, there was no opportunity cost to waiting.

Regardless, there is no question Rudals likes brand names. This whole country (SoKo, not the US) is like a Veblen case study.

He has a reasonable plan doesn't he in that like all if us he would prefer the Formosa if it fit well?

If one has the means, then sure wait a few months and take adv of nmwa's great service. If it doesn't fit well the he will go for that la spalla, fully canvassed, decent Italian mills, fits great (though one wants to see the pants). He can't do Formosa if he does SS now (the pottery barn of suits), so he waits.

I think this is his plan. Seems logical given his wants and means.

Thought on these two squares and ties?  Specifically to there versatility.  I only have 3 pocket squares and 10 or so ties so I am trying to buy some versatile items.

Thanks.
