I hate to break up the consensus, but I think the jackets are slightly too long for AJL. Worn as part of a suit, it won't be as noticeable, but as a man of similar height, a 29" BOC looks much better to me. I agree that the 48 fits better, and if a little relief at the side seams makes it comfortable, that is the right chest size.

Ach, now you come along with this. You're gonna make me look like a jerk if I waffle on this one. You're forcing me to go get a shorter jacket and compare pics (gdl230 aint gonna like this and will likely lose whatever modicum of respect he might have had for me). If I didn't respect your opinion and fits I wouldn't bother. ffffuuuu.gif

Interesting. I think I actually prefer the front and side in the reg. length--better balance-- but the back looks better to my eye in the short length. Odd that the two backside pics appear to have a slightly different look, in that the legs look more elongated and the pants slimmer in the short pic, beyond just the slight difference in jacket length, even though the shots were pretty much set the same. Slight change in lighting + slight difference in length? Different buttoning points play a factor too. The short does give my legs the appearance of more length. Ahh, nuance.

I agree with gdl, proportions look good. Splits the body in half

In that front facing picture of AJL, the bottom of the coat doesn't quite align with his knuckles. However, AJL's arms aren't falling at his side. He's doing the "robo pose" with them lifted the side. I'd hazard that they align better if he lowered his arms.

Two schools of thought on measuring proper jacket length:

1). "Splits body in half"
2). "Bottom of jacket hits knuckles"

I'd say AJL's jacket succeeds on both counts

I agree with the consensus. The length looks fine. You could go a touch shorter but it looks balanced. Your legs don't look cut off and there is a nice substance in the top half. Your rear is covered. Of all the rules, rule of thumb is probably the least important though the easiest. If you hold your arms straight down you might pas that test too. Remember there's an acceptable range not a single precise length length. With respect to SB his leg to torso ratio might differ from you and that will matter, not Overall height.

At this point it's important how you feel but to join most, it looks good.

Edit: jrd also makes the point abou arm position.

Personally I compare jacket hem to the crotch of the pants. It's easier to judge than 1) and not dependent on arm length like 2). Also means that jacket length will depend on torso/legs ratio, and YMMV on your preferences there.

DEFINITELY THE SHORT.

(I hesitate to go against Greg's usually impeccable judgment, but I feel strongly about this one.)

AJL posted another picture. Definitely not too long.

Maybe you just don't like "Grown Ass Man, Ass Covering Length Jackets"
