Hehe, I'm just careful cause I know I am new. I can't stand people who have no clue what they are talking about running around and giving bad advice and expressing their noob opinions as if they were fact. At the same time I want to contribute to the community and learn something by contributing as well. So for now when I express my opinions or give advice I make it clear that I know that I may NOT know what I am talking about. ;)

All that said, I'm sure there will come a time when I feel I have "arrived" at a consistently good style and am posting consistent 20+ fits (with any luck!). Then I may decide to take away my disclaimers. :P

Someone shoot me some ties that will go well with this suit! Formosa (Click to show)

Pretty much every tie that has been recommended to you since day 1 will go with that suit. If you are concerned about the fact that the suit has a pattern (albeit a subtle one) and about combining patterns (though I don't think you have to worry much about this with that suit), then I suggest investing in some solid grenadine ties. Silver / grey, burgundy, powder blue, chocolate, forest green and the like will all be lovely, some with white shirts, others with blue, etc.

Never mind.

Thanks, I'm sure I will too. :)

I'm just starting to really think about how pieces work with my current wares rather than looking at items in a vacuum. Both skill are important, but it's a process.

I think you can pull off #3 with no problem. I like them all for what they are. 3 being a bit more sporty but based on your combos I know you can pull it off. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Noodles, that is a beautiful looking suit.  I hope it fits.

I recommend something plain, but with texture.  And get some microcheck shirts.  You might also risk a non-SF white one or two - very cheerful with a navy suit in the summer.

I got one of these for my birthday, which I think suits your needs perfectly.  Grenadines are great, but I love the soft matte texture of woven raw silk too.  The burnt orange is mine - lovely direct contrast with blue.  The dark red or the brown would be ideal if you want to tone it down a notch.  I like the lighter blues, too.

LTBR - be wary of anyone presenting their opinions as fact, "noob" or not!

Had to figure out how to get the right belt size that I am also ordering from NMWA but the suit order is all cued up for tomorrow morning. I think I deserve something like this when your wife redecorates the entire master-bedroom with $5k in one weekend.

This tie (this might drive JRD nuts but...) is too close to my complexion. I will play safe with a light/dark grey solid tie.

I just bought that suit and I'm getting the tie (Bigi) too. Rudals, check out Sam Hober Macclesfield Silk #94.

Nice!

I just you didn't...get it in my size. :slayer:

Wow, I completely forgot about Sam Hober. Is this what you're talking about?

Just a thought: That suit has lines going across and and I wonder how stripe ties will complement it.

Yeah, that's it. As for stripes, just look at the NMWA picture....it works great. Don't overthink it....

Is this the tie that is on display with the suit?

Almost positive it is. I emailed Greg for confirmation, but haven't heard back yet.

Is this your first Formosa?

It could be this. We'll wait.

Nope...second. That tie is why I emailed for confirmation. Either way, they would both work.
