Check out the Japanese shoe thread (or rather don't if you want to save money - you'll end up buying some)
Are you outdoorsy? (Mount Fuji, some scenic/older style villages, bullet train and countryside could be possible)
Or do you want to stay in the city (might be easier if you don't speak Japanese/traveling would be easier - no car needed at all)
Ha, shoes I'm good on. More interested in suits/slacks/jackets right now if I'm going to spend the money. I figure ~$2- 3k on clothes while I'm there would be reasonable. I'm starting a new job in early May (hence the time off in between) and I'd like some new stuff to go with it.
Definitely outdoorsy, and would love to see some of the countryside and had planned to do Fuji, just not sure whether I'd have the time or motivation to go all the way up. I've heard it's about 7-8 hours to the top and half that to go back down? Would love to also hit an Onsen (hot spring, right?) in some quiet place.
My rough notion of the 10 days is:
Tokyo 2 days
Countryside/Outdoors 3 days
Kyoto 2 days
Osaka 3 days
And if that's too much in too little time, maybe cut out Kyoto and add to the others.
