Good Natured Advice Thread (improving a business wardrobe) - Page 2359

A few people in my program take them. I'd really rather avoid it (though I cannot read a methodology paper longer than 30 pages without giving myself a minute break, as this post indicates. Computational agent based modeling of emergent multi-level organizational phenomena. Weeeeee). The cool stuff (studies in subjects I am interested in or are relevant to something I'm interested in) I can generally do three in a row without issue.

Took Concerta for a semester as an undergrad. Did little to improve my efficiency, but it did cause my to rub my tongue raw against the back of my teeth. Then I had to smoke to get to sleep.

I think it's just a matter of practice and discipline. Just like working out, the shortcuts are there, but it's better just to do things the right way.

Ossiplasty is kind of like deadlifts, except more expensive.

On this topic, are there exercise to fix a drop shoulder?

Is Ossiplasty real? I just made it up on the basis that rhinoplasty was a nose job.

Ah. Maybe I should have said osteoplasty.

There is a real operation to lengthen the leg by cutting the femur and then bracing it with a 1-2cm gap which - hopefully - will fill in with new bone.

It was popular in China as a cosmetic procedure to increase overall height. A few years ago the Chinese government banned the practice, as the complication rate was alarmingly high - a lot of people were ending up in wheelchairs for life.

People will do all sorts of nutty stuff to "look better". The current craze in China is to elongate the chin to a point with injectable fillers. In Japan a while back, girls were having saline injected under their forehead skin to raise a donut shape. Bagel Head WTF.

I heard from a friend who, when as a peds resident, had a patient on the floor getting the leg lengthening procedure. Apparently they would twist a screw everyday to increase the length a little bit. He would hear the kid scream in agony from down the hall.

Pain meds are your friend in that situation.
I think that was through the pain meds.

Yeah. There is really only so much pain meds can do short of an epidural

Thanks all for taking me seriously and for offering me exercise tips. It's time to shut up and walk the walk. I have been extremely frustrated with my recent weight gain, which I blame on my pregnant wife. I'll just take some time to reprioritize things, get in shape, and get some new freaking suits. Thanks all for the help.

As far as suits go, I am most certain that I will try Field Tailoring and based upon how that goes, I'll be reloading my closet. Can't post jack on waywrn with just 3 or 4 suits.

Imagine the picnic attack if Noods experiences sympathetic pregnancy.

I think this initial kerfuffle started when gs said you can't change the size of your shoulders (paraphrasing). This is simply untrue.

I'm not sure how the people disputing this basic fact can be the ignorant ones in an argument.

That said, it would be equally ignorant to say functional training (playing sports, etc) is all you will ever need. There's a reason professional athletes do more than just play their sport.

As is often the case, the correct answer lies between the extremes.

Well GS said both of those (incorrect) things haha.

Well... Newshoes did say we're all full of narrow minded BS, and are idiots. But still.

We probably just don't understand because there's no muscles between our ears (probably because the brain is an organ)

I scolded the idiots laughing at GS because he doesn't do deadlifts, which may have only been the llama idiot. I also said the BS was going both ways because it was. GS was wrong about things as were you guys in having a very narrow minded view on fitness programs.

I do not want to reinitiate the dispute, but will share that I have been doing various programs for 25 years. I did the hardcore lifting workouts for decades, got huge, have tried various other options and am now doing a program with minimal weight training. In fact, as soon as I had kids old enough to jump on me in various back wrenching ways, I became much more focused on strengthening my core. I've even incorporated yoga into my routine.

There are many ways to get in shape and look good. It's more about what keeps you engaged and can be balanced between wife, kids and job. Once kids came along, there was no time for spending hours in the gym anymore.
