Good Natured Advice Thread (improving a business wardrobe) - Page 2274

A man looking for ties. This thread has come full circle. Nieman Marcus reference just makes me nostalgic.

1. I can see that thought re: Vanda, though I think their lined ties knot fine (and I tie a tight knit)
2. You're looking at YellowHook at the worst time. It's essentially in "clearance" mode with the winter offerings in preparation for the spring/summer released. What you currently see for YH is the very last of the seasonal offerings. There were many more prior, though they are long since sold out.

Given your more casual workplace, any thought as to knits?

No, not a more casual workplace, but have to dress to match clients.

Oh, can't believe I forgot - Kent Wang? They don't have a big selection, but some very interesting ones - and knits if you want to go casual

What do you guys think of the Exquisite Trimmings ties? I've posted a few and nobody commented. Think I'll get the forest green one at least.

No comments is generally good. If a tie stands out, it's usually in a bad way

Yes. What happened there was that I scored a fantastic Cappelli 7-fold neat silk tie at about half price, thanks to you.

If you want comments, my advice is to post actual pics rather than links. It's easy enough.

I'm not sure I agree. Admittedly, it's relative, as most would consider all the ties mentioned above somewhat expensive. With current rates, Vanda comes in at about $105-115, with another $15 or so if you get the extra goodies (custom size, monogram, etc).

Like I said, not cheap by any means, but not ungodly expensive by SF standards.

Note: they now do free priority shipping (which was a tough pill to swallow for me) for orders over $350 SGD.

yeah, the shipping they've added in is nice now. It sucked when I used to buy 1-2 ties, and the shipping would be ~10-15% of the entire purchase price

I love his grenadines. I have some minor issues with the neats on which I'll elaborate in a bit

---

I have two neats from him, both of which I like. However, in both, after untying there always appears to be a significant kink in the wool lining around the keeper which I then manually straighten out. I untie my ties properly, and these are the only ties with which I've had this experience.

There also appears to be some sort of issue with the way the silk was cut or perhaps fitted with the lining. When worn, the silk of both my neats ripples away from the wool lining.

So as is, I'll buy one on sale if it was a pattern I really like; otherwise, just grenadines from ET's house brand (which is a shame; he carries some great patterns)

Thanks! I shall try and find it on the site. The site isn't the most easy to navigate.... Search wise, I mean.
