Lapels aren't thin at all. They're normal. SF kind of skews our perception of that.

Just wanted to mention that Henry Carter has some zig-zag knits in staple colors that, due to the strong USD/weakAUD, come in at just under 60 shipped to the US.

Just what is bourette silk, anyway?

AFAIK, it's a slubby fabric made from broken waste silk threads.

Are 70/30 (wool/silk) pocket squares better suited for Fall/Winter or only the colors matter?

I wear them year-round.  The drier texture pairs well across all the seasons.

Ok thanks, I agree. I know wool ties are for Fall/Winter, I wasn't sure if it was the same for PS.

What do you guys think of something like this?

I'm kind of interested in getting a lighter-colored suit.

Just received one from Cappelli (grenadine fina #A4). Very nice, of course. The price of the tie itself is quite reasonable. Shipping is expensive, but if you're buying with USD, the exchange rate still makes the total cost in line with the price of comparable ties And you can get exactly the width and length you want.

Thank you.  This is where I am going to go.  I was set on grossa, not fina, but the consistent feedback is basically that rust grossa in a 9cm/MTM does not exist.  So I'll go fina.  I think i have found a set of 5 ties, so I believe that gets me free shipping.  Did you go with the standard setup - 3 fold and lined?

For the sake of conversation and welcome feedback, the ties I am thinking of are:

Has anyone ever asked for the leftover cloth from a bespoke suit/jacket project to be made into a tie?  I have two projects and both might make for pretty cool looking ties.  Or is this crazy talk?  One bolt is 5M, so even after a 3 piece i should have plenty.

This one is a lot more blue IRL

I don't see why not. If you paid for 5 meters, you should be able to use 5 meters in my mind.

Perhaps there is an unwritten rule against this, but, if there is, it's a stupid one.

Totally missed that you were asking about a rust grossa! The fina has a good visible texture so it might come close to what you want. Mine is a standard 3-fold lined.

I have the one you're leaning against. It's nice. I want to get the rust cashmere one. The others all look like good options and thebtiming is right to get order a bunch of F/W ties if you want to build that part of your rotation.

David Hober says he needs a square yard of fabric to make a tie so you might not have quite enough even starting with 5 meters. Close though so maybe. Is that first one the P&B Universal slate blue that NMWA is making with Formosa? I'm really looking forward to that suit! I wonder if 16oz might be a bit heavy for a tie.

This post just reminded me that I may be too strict when it comes to measurements. The only time and the last time I ordered a tie from Cappelli, the tie width was 3.75" or so rather than the 3.5" that I askes for. So I got into an argument with Cappelli. I think I need to start expecting variances with hand made clothings. I seem to have too high of an expectation.

Then again, I never had any issues with Sam Hober.
