I decided to give LL a shot first—I like working with people one-on-one instead of big "companies" (houses in this case, I guess). I thought about the traveling SR guys and whatnot but since they come 3-4 times a year I didn't really want to have to wait a year for my first suit, and it's always helpful to have a local tailor for alterations and general convenience.
So I looked at some of the other tailors in the NYC area, including Ercole, Reeves, Corvato, Fioravanti, and others (different price ranges, I know, but just did lots of research to get a feel). I decided I wanted to try something more British at first, since my impression is that it is more flattering for those with less-than-amazingly-athletic bodies than an Italian or American cut.
However, I think at some point I'll have to give Rubi a shot with a sports coat or something, even though it's the opposite of what I just said. They do come every two months, though, and some of their stuff just looks plain awesome.
Trousers-wise, I haven't really decided yet. I've talked to Ambrosi and NSM, but with the whole Ambrosi thing I might try NSM first.
