From what I understand, Washington wasn't a particularly good strategist nor was he a good tactician.

Also, this is a bit of a steal:

All this time I have been taught that George Washington and the militiamen(?) fought bravely against the British redcoats and kicked their arses.

For an alternative take on this period of American history and a thoroughly enjoyable read as well, read 'Burr' by Gore Vidal.

Hate to break up this very interesting discussion but any thoughts on that Thomas Pink tux shirt? Pink also carries a bow tie for about 100.

So.. if i wanted to try something more structured, what would be some good brands that would't be super expensive (meaning no - TF/Attolini for 4-5k) that do MTO/MTM in the states (SF/LA)?

Samuelsohn.  They aren't equivalent to Formosa or other handmade tailoring, but they're widely available, well made, and offer a nice, moderate structured shoulder that isn't too padded.  I have more of their jackets than any other maker.

French declaration of war, and the related official recognition of the U.S. by France, didn't come until 1778. Prior to that the only French involvement was financial and the supply of ammunition (which was considerable). The British defeat at Saratoga predated this. After France joined, their help was significant.

Washington got so so marks early in the war. There was always a tug of war between him and his advisors over his inclination to fight a single epic battle against the Brits. His advisors always won out and Washington came to recognize the desirability of jabbing and withdrawing.

According to the bios of Ellis and McCollogh, Washington deserves high marks for developing an excellent intelligence network, assembing an excellent staff of generals, managing personalities, and inspiring his staff and men. In those ways, he was not unlike Ike.

This was always my impression.

Holy macro and cheese, what the heck are they teaching in schools?! They totally dropped the parts about the involvement of France and Spain in the American Revolutionary War. Great public education.

I think we spoke about Viola Milano on this thread, and I said they were overpiced. Here's some proof. These ties are made with exactly the same fabric in exactly the same workshop. I think Tweedy bought the Exquisite Trimmings one.

Viola Milano triple stripe shantung: £98

Yes. ET branded ties are great. Grenadines and Shantungs but some beats coming in. If a VM tie appeals to you, always worth checking ET for a cheaper (but same) version. I recently posted a pic of green one in the Grad Lounge thread and recently in my IG.

Speaking of ties, are there any other makers apart from Cappelli and Hober who offer ties in multiple lengths for less than 100 USD?

Cheers,
