Me too, but only slightly so.

I just trawled through about twenty pages of catch-up and would like to make the following observations:

1. It's a tribute to this thread and the crew who populate it, that the historico-political debate on a subject as touchy as Japan's WWII atrocities in Korea, and the questionable status of that country's apologies and reparations thereto, was discussed with such restraint and intelligence. I learned a lot. Kudos to all involved for a fascinating OT diversion conducted in such gentlemanly spirit.

2. @EliodA , your wife's bridal dress was simply astonishing. Thanks so much for sharing.

My wife-to-be and I chose a completely different route: we popped up to Suzhou on the fast train and spent a day trawling around that city's famous "wedding district", trying on prefab wedding kit until we found something good. I was skeptical at first - most of the pieces on offer were in execrably bad taste - but then she stumbled into a dress which seemed to have been made just for her.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Certainly nothing like as spectacular as your wife's garment, but boy did we save a lot of dough.

3. GuP,for your wedding I would stump up for a pair of G&G hooves, preferably in the Deco last. They won't distract attention from the bride, but boy will they look and feel good on your feet.

While I agree with the suggestion to get nicer shoes, I'd caution against the deco last. That's a solidly dandy looking pair of shoes and there are plenty of places I'd never feel comfortable wearing them. The vass f last, or eg 202 are much more conservative, and consequently much less likely to appear dated in 10 years.

That G&G is simply beautiful but if the price is an issue i'd suggest camina plain cap toe

Are these in NYC?

The Internet is your friend. No man walks alone sells vass and they're in NYC.

Just to sump up the shoe choices and places to try on around NYC:

1. Carmina Rain 732 Simple Captoe - Calf Black $550.00
(http://shop.thearmoury.com/us/artisans/carmina)

2. C&J Belgrave - ~$600 - store in NYC
(http://www.crockettandjones.com/product/belgrave-black)

3. EG Chelsea 202 last - $1225 - leffot in NYC has them
(http://leffot.com/shop/index.php/shoes/edward-green/chelsea-black-202-last.html)

I would get these EG though : (http://www.skoaktiebolaget.se/collections/oxfords/products/edward-green-chelsea-in-black)

4. VASS Galosh oxford captoe, black calf - $650 - NMWA store in NYC
(http://www.nomanwalksalone.com/index.php/footwear/shoes/galosh-oxford-captoe-black-calf.html)

Other shoes are the Meermin 101198 - BLACK CALF and the G&G hooves deco last - I do not know if there is a store in/around NYC to try on in person.

Leatherfoot is in Canada - per the magic of Google.

GuP, I have those Carmina Rain last captoes. If you know your size, you can get them for $200 cheaper from Skoaktiebolaget, Gentlemens Footwear or Carmina directly.

I hear ya. I have to find a place in NYC to try them. Once I know my size in the Rain last, I can order from a few different retailers that offer lower prices. I am not sure if the Armoury in NYC will have something in the Rain last for me to try on.

I think you misunderstand both black tie and exuberance.

I think you and I simply have a different idea of exuberance. There is no need to accuse anyone of misunderstanding something that, I'm sure, we both know quite a bit about. I think black tie is wonderful and I hope everyone has had the opportunity to experience it. I know I have. It is not, however, exuberant to me. Enough said.
