Jungalo, do you own a blue blazer/odd jacket? I can't recall. But if so, do you mind posting a picture?

That gray jacket you posted a few hours ago from HSM is something you should pass on. It does look orphaned (as will all gray jackets without some very, very casual details). The other two were simply too country. It isn't a big deal to have slight redundancy in staples, but when looking at more unique fare, you need to ask yourself, "Do I already own something that, with the same shirt, tie, and trousers, would achieve the same effect?" I think at this point, the answer would be yes on most countrified blazers you find on eBay. I know they are cheap, but it's worth patiently waiting for a few staples to come up.

Also, steer clear of three buttons. I know they're everywhere on eBay. And I generally like three buttons (provided you've the height). But they definitely shouldn't be the foundation of any wardrobe.

It's a thrifted 3 button EZ

This is the only solid navy jacket (sep) that I have. I don't have any other solid colored sport coats. All of the SC I do have have been thrifted so their age and style reflects that. Most of them are American brands too. Which now that it's been pointed out to me are quite boxy and vintage looking. I didn't think any of them looked bad before, but now seeing them in more "educated" eyes I kind of want to get rid of most of them. I'm a pattern whore admittedly. It's hard for me to look beyond a pattern that appeals to me and into the rest of the SC to determine it's overall look. I think eventually I'd like to get my SC's down to 10ish. 2-4 solids, 4-6 (or more! lol) patterned fun/country jackets.

So I'm thinking that a neat with striped shirts is trickier than I thought. I suspect there are two possible scale clashes. One with the size of the florets (or whatever the pattern is composed of) and one for the distance between the florets.

JR: That's an orphaned suit jacket. Also 3 button. I'd concentrate on getting something 2 button unorphaned. Those are a bit harder to find on eBay, but definitely worth the hunt.

Dudals, I put my vote in for Florence. I went there on my first honeymoon too. I wish I knew then what I know now and could've taken advantage of the shopping a little more but thats ok. It was great. Took a day trip to Venice, Rome and Siena. Saw amazing sights and ate amazing food. Highly recommend it. Stayed at a really cool Hotel with a rooftop terrrace that we ate breakfast and a few dinners at. Simply gorgeous!

@Clags - i agree that neats and stripes are hard to get right, but they do make a great combo when they are right. i am actually wearing a neat tie and a striped shirt this very moment!

You just need the stripes on the shirt to be pretty close together and also not be too bright - like a very muted light blue or something.

I know the colors above are a PS job but it should also come with a Spoiler and epilepsy warning haha

Here's a legit question of the day.

Black overcoats are a big no no, kind of like black suits?! I wear them with my navy blue suits but don't know if that is appropriate. Also, do I wear it over the suit jacket or take the suit jacket off?

You wear your black overcoat over your suit jacket. Which is why it's an overcoat. It goes over your coat. See?

Sometimes, you wish it was a navy overcoat, or a camel one, or a grey herringbone martingale. But nobody throws stones at you or calls you a leper so it's mostly OK.
