This I have GOT to see.

I suppose I see what you're saying, I just think it's a little bit too conservative, for my tastes. I have some room to play around with patterns, and so if anyone has any insight on this to put together something that will look coherent, please offer me some advice.

Good luck.

Noodles style edit. ^^^^^^

Yup. And for many of the same reasons, too.

Well, I saw your response before you edited it but thank you, I just find it hard to believe that there would not be any possible combinations with this shirt that would look good. Even a simple polka dot navy tie? Like I understand the conservatism here, but seriously?

Also, I'm not trying to argue, if that's what my text kind of sounds like. I'm learning here and my questions aren't any more than that, just questions.

I kinda figured that.
Good advice though.

No dots. Dots are too small. The smallness of the shirt pattern and the smallness of polka dots will clash, Don't go for bigger dots either because that will look clownish. Think contrast. Not contrast of colors or tones, but contrast of pattern scale. If you MUST use another pattern a wide stripe would be your VERY best bet. Remember, what you mistake for simple conservatism is actually an experience of tried and true methods. Someone who wears a seatbelt every time they get behind the wheel isn't being conservative, they just know better.

Alright, that's understandable.

Would a grenadine tie work well in this situation? Solid color, but still has a textured 'pattern'?

That would be better than a pattern, yes.

Brilliant.

Great, so a grenadine tie in what color? Burgundy? Olive?

See, this is where it gets hard and why I recommended against that shirt. I'd say your best bet is navy or black, but you're killing me here.

Hahaha, okay.

Thanks for your help thus far, it's greatly appreciated. At this point I'm stuck with a shirt that's apparently awful and nothing else to the outfit and prom is in two weeks!

One man's opinion. Which is why I hoped someone else would jump in. Someone who isn't so crusty and conservative as me. ;)
