I'm at crate brewery right now drinking a delicious stout after that room temperature swill last night.

You have to know where to go!

Tell me where to go! Slash you should have come and hung out!

When I was in Blighty in '97, it seemed like every pub was pulling a local ale, and they were all delicious. And the pulling is so much better than US-style pressurized kegs. In '08, I visited only one pub, and it had been transformed into a family-friendly establishment with little character. But it was still quite pleasant!

Also, in case you missed it in the meet-up thread, here's me and Murl:

I want to know if anyone has ever worn a tuxedo t shirt to one of these meet ups.

But, but some stouts are so much better at close to room temp

Sure. That was probably my first mistake, ie not ordering a stout. I think I got a pale ale and it was nasty.

@Coxsackie there used to be a joke in England:

Q: Why do Castlemaine call their beer "XXXX?"

A: Because Australians can't spell "piss".

Have to acknowledge that Australians are currently demonstrating an admirable ability to win at cricket, though.

I used to live near the XXXX brewery in Australia...The smells would waft around that suburb all day, not always pleasant though. I did a tour of the brewery once, it was great. Worked up a pretty big thirst by the end of it. XXXX Bitter is a great beer, one of my favourite. Coxie will not agree, due to the fact he is from Melbourne (Where VB, Victoria Bitter is the pub beer of choice), but also I doubt he drinks either.

Probably drinks that girly 'buteeq' swill or whatever they are called.

Also, Mimo, you probably know this, but piss is colloquial for beer in Oz anyway. i.e let's get on the piss.

Getting on the piss, being pissed, pissing it up, and piss-head, are all used in English.  But the actual beer is never called "piss".  You people are clearly barbarians.

Didn't realise you were English...or to be honest, that that was an English thing also haha. No you are right, I would never say "here, have a bottle of piss".
