Good Natured Advice Thread (improving a business wardrobe) - Page 139

Rudals. If you decide after careful consideration of all the opinions on here that you actually like the trendier stuff, then go for it. Don't go out and buy something trendy, however, because you have to or don't see much available out there. With the sort of money that you seem willing to spend on suits, you'd better be getting something you like. Your suit collection is not exactly in critical condition right now, so you have time to figure out what you like and want. Once you do that, you'd be in a better position to look into some quality MTM options (which if you are not finding what you want OTR is likely a better choice than buying something you think you're settling for that costs $3,000). Buying stuff RTW is easier in one sense since you get to try things on, but part of the process if learning what you like and being a more educated consumer whether you are buying bespoke, MTM or RTW.

Hmmm...I have been feeling like I am in need for some suits but it's hard to add to the wardrobe when I can only see $2k ~ $3k suits. Bad Poodles! I was leaning on RTW from Zegna just because of it's easy availability and my made up perception that it is good quality. Since I can't buy a suit anyways (due to the big event), I will take my time in observing what I like when I give thumbs up in WAYWRN. That will be a good use of my time and then when I do go bespoke, I will have somewhat of an idea of what I want. At least I won't make such stupid mistakes as getting a suit with narrow peak lapel. :brick:. I know what I shouldn't get when I look at RTW but it appears all the manufacturers decided to slim down and narrow down and call it a trend.

Just please don't do express.  I went there yesterday while my wife was next door at Victoria Secrets...bleh.  Everything in express made me want to puke.  Skinny lapels, skinny ties, bright orange shirts, I got nauseous in there.

A man should not go into a VC no matter what but more importantly a gentleman who dresses properly has no business in going into an Express store.

I disagree with the first part.  I'll go in there and pick out what I want to see her in any day of the week.  I have no fear or shame in that.  Second part I wholeheartedly agree.  I wanted to see how bad it was...and it was bad.

Also, Rudals if you have not done so already, look at the earlier parts of the good taste thread (back when Manton, Foo and others were regularly posting)

And thus begins Rudals descent into eBay. A word to the wise, Rudals. You saw my collection of terrible from earlier? The result of eBay. Don't get me wrong, most of my good stuff is from there too, but be VERY judicious.

Do you KNOW your measurements for SURE? Don't go into any auction without them. Have fun, sir. :P
