Good Natured Advice Thread (improving a business wardrobe) - Page 1361

^ True, but I suspect a higher rise trouser would fix that problem (looks to me like the vest is a good length and the trouser rise is too short for it to be covered.

I've decided to retire my staple charcoal suit. It was made in Bangkok a few years back at a reputable tailor in S130s, but I made the rookie error of asking for an obscenely tight fit. I've considered taking it to the tailor, but think it's beyond repair...

So it's time to find a replacement. Charcoal doesn't really fill me with excitement, but it's necessary to have one where I work. I have spoken to Marc at Bloomies in NY and can source a charcoal Eidos suit for full retail ($1400ish, although I would get a $250 gift card if bought this weekend). I tried on a size 48 Eidos sportcoat from NMWA recently and it fits well (although I understand there are minor differences between the Bloomies and NMWA models).

Is the Eidos suit worth it @ full retail, or should I aim for something a little lower given my lack of enthusiasm for charcoal?

Given your lack of enthusiasm for the color, I'd look at Suit Supply and then get something you'll love from Eidos.

I think that's the best move, thanks. I don't think SS have any fully-canvassed charcoal suits, so may need to look elsewhere.

I have been looking at KW but was turned off by the very small chest size vs shoulder size. Plus didn't have a good experience with KW MTM shirts.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you find something that suits you.

I know everyone wants to tick the iGent boxes, but a lack of full canvassing wouldn't keep me from buying a suit if I liked it otherwise.

I dont even know what kind of canvasing I have on a single SC or suit I own.

I have this SC that I think is really cool, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what to pair it with. I also thought it might be hard for me to pull off since I think it works against my skin tone.

Any thoughts? I was going to sell/trade it if I couldn't pull it off.

Fabric is moon tweed.

You can MTM a full canvassed SuitSupply suit in a basic charcoal 110 from VBC for around $700-$800.

It's significantly darker than your skin tone so you should not have any problems rocking it. Goes with most winter themed colored ties and grey slacks.

Medium gray flannel trousers, a navy or burgundy tie, light blue OCBD, and a pair of full brogues.

^ I like that jacket a lot, RTC, and I'm with kulata--mid gray, light gray, fawn (!) would look great with this.  If you want inspiration for combinations, UrbanComposition and Vox both featured a lot of tweed in that shade on their blogs this winter.

How's it fit?
