I looked at that Minnis but it is 12/13 oz and my question is: is that is more of a cold season suit?

Also, my PoW came with LP (which I am happy about) but is different from the description on the website.

Minnis flannel is probably a 6 month suit for you, close to 8 for me in Chicago. The navy Minnis Formosa isn't flannel and is probably closer to 7 months for you.

Gents...Just wanted to say Happy New Year and thanks to those that have given me input thus far.  This thread has been a fun and informative place to jump into SF.

I think 2015 is going to be a good year for me - new job and building up a SF wardrobe for the new job :)

I'm looking at buying my first quality tie and was looking at starting with Hober (Navy or Burgundy Grenadine).   However for Christmas I got a $75 gift certificate to Kent Wang so maybe I'll start there?  Any one have any recommendation one way or the other - Wang vs Hober Grenadine?

You really can't go wrong with Sam Hober, unless you order a RED by accident.

I have no experience with Wang.

Make sure you are okay with tie width when you are going with Wang.

Exquisite trimmings has nice grenadines in two widths plus style forum discount. I wrote a review in the ET thread. Under 70 dollars I think before ship. Hand rolled edges, light interlining, Italy made, and Untipped. I plan on getting my grens there. Hober has the widest selection perhaps but there is a bespoke option from ET as well. KW might be nice too and if you want to use that gift why not try KW first?

Edit:

Here's the post on the ET grens

Use your gift certificate to get one tie from Kent Wang. Buy one from Hober. I think very highly of Hober, so much so that I just don't bother buying ties from anywhere else, but there are many other good makers out there.

BUT if you do decide to go with Sam Hober, please order at least 3.

They hand make their ties so there is some waiting time.

DHL makes it possible for you to receive it within couple of days upon completion.

+1 for Hober.

Speaking of ties though I was hanging around the mall waiting and made some impulse kops from tmlewin. Comments please? I can still return or exchange. The green is wool, and the right one is a cotton-silk. 30 pounds each. =/

Plus one.  I always look to see if Hober has what I am looking for first before looking at other AV's.

You can't go wrong with Drake's or Cappelli. Great quality stuff, and nice selection.

I like the paisley square but it's a bit dark. The other square looks cool. As for the ties, I like the knit. The other two are okay, but there are better options methinks. The green tie material looks okay and I don't like the stripe in the middle for the 'repp'.

I have both. While I prefer Hober, KW grenadines are very nice. Happy New Year.

This is KWs: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

All of the makers suggested are great. But if you have a KW gift card, I think his ties are really good for the price. I have a navy silk knit and my girlfriend got me this one for Christmas:

Both are very well made, drape nicely and make a nice knot.

I'll go against the grain and say get a knit from Kent. The grenadines aren't that fantastic after holding both a KW Grenadine and SH Grenadine.
