I've noted almost a complete absence of houndstooth SCs in the 20+ thumb composite thread. Anyone care to speculate why?

IMO Houndstooth works better as a suit. I have an odd jacket in black and white houndstooth that I wear occasionally, but it can be pretty tough to pair well with odd trousers. If the jacket were of a fabric that would make decent trousers, I would probably get matching trousers made for it.

I think a large houndstooth in brown or navy can work decently as an odd jacket. I'd describe Greg's suit as being a small houndstooth and mine as probably a medium. So something larger than this: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

What about a larger scale, multi-colored houndstooth like this?

Is there anything a houndstooth SC does that a check in a similar scale/color doesn't do better?

By my count there are 4 houndstooth fits in the 43 pages of the composite thread

That's more like a guncheck with houndstooth.

There are at least two pictures of a houndstooth SC in the 20+ thread. Mine, which is navy and black and basically resolves to navy. Gave it to my dad, actually, so I no longer own it.

Agreed with the proposition that houndstooth makes for a better suit than odd jacket.

This is a blue houndstooth suit I own. I'd agree that pattern works better as a suit. It's medium blue and navy, which gives it enough texture to be "interesting" yet still conservative enough for my CBD environment.

Houndstooth depends on the scale. Big gun check houndstooth sc's look awesome, but this is more so if they're heavy and have sueded details/elbow patches and leather buttons.

Agreed. Can make a great look especially paired with some more casual items. But you're more limited for usage in that case. Personally I'm more of a T-shirt and jeans type on the weekend

PS Noodles how is the boxing research going? :box:

Because they can be really hard to pair. I had one, but sold it because I never liked the outcome of the fits it produced. Its just much better as a suit. As a SC, the only ones I think that are particularly useful are tiny black/navy patterns that are essentially navy SCs.
