Yeah, I think Beacon Hill --> Boston Public Garden --> Back Bay is a must. That's what comes to mind when I think of Boston.

Time permitting, I think a trip to the ICA and Louis Boston would be nice as well.

ICA is a very short walk from the Westin and worth visiting. Gardner is great. Don't count out the MFA if you like Impressionists.
Agree that the Yard might be a bit overrated; if you do go, consider a Crimson Key tour.

I like the ICA but it's certainly not for everyone.

Noodles, boston is a walking city. I'd pack a pair of shoes you can really walk in so you and your wife can get around. If you're here over a weekend, I wouldn't mind wandering around with you guys for a bit depending on what you're up for.

You can honestly walk from the liberty to the ICA without much issue and there are cool things to see along the way (common/garden, downtown, greenway, etc etc etc). Or cut through the north end instead.

It's a great city. I've enjoyed the few years I've spent here and really hope I end up here for school (or in nyc/philly/chicago or even dc).

My issue with Baltimore is you pretty much have to stick to your neighborhood because most of the city is, well, ugh.

Awesome. I hope my wife doesn't effing get harassed by the locals when she walks around Boston by herself (while I attend the conference). It's pretty annoying that she gets hit on in DC. Not saying my wife is hot, but just gets hit on too much in DC.

Great tip! We must have a drink! EDIT: Alcoholic drink for you and soda for me.

So I have been sober/clean for the last...6 months or so. I am not much of a beer drinker. I used to drink to forget things so I used to drink out of liquor bottles (vodkas and whiskeys).

Yea, the major difference between Baltimore and most other big cities is that the bad areas are mixed in with the livable ones.
