Sorry for the derail Noodlers but I must say I'm proud of myself. 3 posts in 1 day is an all time record for me in my 3 years here on SF. My goal is to finally hit 200 posts before the year ends

I'm no expert, but I believe that "arranged marriage" these days exists on a spectrum. At one end, girls are still effectively property (and young men have circumscribed options) and if a girl's father makes a match with another family, she will be married. At the other end, parents with marriage-eligible adult children use their social networks to find suitable matches with a focus on identifying a family that they know and respect; the children are free to reject the match, although they might face varying degrees of pressure from their families. There's a lot of variation in between.
Noodles, I wouldn't be surprised that if you asked your parents and aunt they would tell you that they had spoken with your wife's family about matching you two before your aunt suggested that you meet with your wife. Some people would call that an arranged marriage.
