Good Natured Advice Thread (improving a business wardrobe) - Page 681

I have been perusing online for a coat to wear but thus far have found nothing to my liking.

But I have found a few that are...WTF?!!!!! Who'd wear this $#!T?!!!

(I wonder if some in the casual forum would find these...acceptable)

Fair enough Stitch, you know yourself better than me.  You definitely need one of those jackets by Fall

A couple of nice black options on B&S, I just need people to buy my stuff to help with my clothing cash flow.

Is it absurd of me to be considering these EG Shannons when I don't have the classic black captoe in the closet yet?

Argh, this means I need to make up my mind soon

And for you guys looking at overcoats. Not a true overcoat but... dayum.

Cleav, that looks fantastic.

Noodles, there is no shortage of hideous clothing out there.

Euro, not really. As you said regarding my coat, people need to buy what appeals to them. If somebody really doesn't like black cap toe shoes, and they're not really going to wear them, they should find a better black shoe option that they like and that will also work.

So, reading about sock matching recently (involuntarily), and stumbled on this pic (should be obvious who this is, given the excellence of the pairings for colors etc. and the PS fold).

Crisp cotton pants with wool on top...sorry a revelation for me. I think it looks good. The advantage is that it opens up possibilities in a wardrobe. I need more cotton pants for fits of this sort. Stitch and SB are on record (I think) as being non-fans (Stitch for reasons of wrinkles, SB, I forget).

Also as an exercise in color and pattern coherence, top notch. Much to learn from here.

Indeed, almost across the board I do not like cotton pants with nice sportcoats. I will say though, that in this case I don't really hate it all that much because of how crisp the pants are, but I can't say that it would've been what I would have gone with. But who am I to say boo to Greg.

I am generally anti-chino. Cotton isn't inherently unacceptable.

Also not a fan of cotton trousers (I have two pair that I wear rarely). Jeans are another matter.

For black captoe balmorals, Greg is practically giving these away ($450 minus 15% discount). Still a fair number of sizes available. I have the brown ones. They're great.

I think Greg was 100% cotton trousers and sports coat at one point (or so he reported I believe). Perhaps that's changed. Anyway, apologies if I misremembered, Greg.

Before this pic, I would have from argued against it. The revelation for me was that it can look good and there is an advantage of diversification of pieces in the closet. It's like grey. Someone puts on navy trousers with tan jacket with a fit in WAYWRN and another says, well I'd opt for grey, always a better choice. But over a season's wear, grey, even in different shades, is, well, monotonous. Mixing it up over time is good.

On the AS. I'm surprised they've stayed around for so long and really at this point sub $400. Not the darling in SF when it comes to English shoes, I suppose. Having had a chance to see them in person and try a pair on, I thought they were great. The navy suede loafers are lovely and I like the single monks (I would probably size up half a size on the 106 last; I found it for me a bit too tapered).

Thanks for the tip! How's the fit compared to Carmina?

Get duck canvas pants! It's cotton without all the wrinkles. All of these trousers are the Luxire chocolate duck canvas:

Is there a code for the 15% discount? I was looking at these in brown vs. a pair of Kent Wang's.

Thank you.

I hate to pit 2 beloved SF vendors against each other - but does anyone have any opinion on these AS vs Kent Wang's shoes in terms of quality?
