Thats why I love dealing with Paypal because there usually is some recourse for fraud. In my years of low transactions I have only 1 fraud purchaser of one of my for sale items. I immediately reported him here and with Paypal and the mods here banned him and actually informed other high level sellers to be careful with him.

x post apols from Scammer thread

Gentlemen,

Recent investigations have led to the exposure of a number of issues, some more serious than others.

Firstly, when something appears too good to be true (Boyd and associates) it often is. We are, by and large, all aware of the value of goods so don't be easily drawn in...

Tread carefully. The number of posts or good feedback is no guarantee of a straight seller

Under no circumstances conduct business via Personal Payment

Don't lose sleep over this, just keep your eyes wide open.

If you have been traumatised in any way by the content of this bulletin please do seek support, elsewhere mwink[1].gif

Scammer buyer on other hand is far more difficult to handle as I know. Paypal generally tend to stay on the buyers side 99% of the time. At some point you don't even have a sellers protection.

I am not certain what stops some dishonest buyer to claim he received a faulty item (asking for a partial refund), or not to mention to claim he received a totally different item and demand a full refund.

I've read many horror stories on eBay forum where devastated sellers asked for a opinion on what to do as they have sold a brand new iphone to a buyer who opened a dispute as soon as he received the parcel claiming he received a old nokia and demanding a full refund. At that particular case seller lost the claim and had to issue a refund where buyer kept both the cake and a piece of cake.

I also had the attempt of a scam on eBay where I sold a Vintage Nokia 8910 to a buyer in the US, who claimed he's card was misused by someone and that he didn't made a purchase so he opened a case against me and asked for a refund, which was hilarious  as the item was delivered on his address made from his computer, so PP ruled in my favor. But that was a retarded scammer.

Happened to me, but with a tablet. They took pictures of a different brand tablet and said it was broken. I posted several photos showing they posted an LG tablet and I sold a Samsung tablet, and eBay sided with them. I actually circled and highlighted the differences for the eBay rep.

Got back a box of rocks and had to paid shipping. Ended up out $400.

I try to sell on here now as I assume regulars aren't scammers, or it's at least safer.

About to get a couple stress pimples after reading all this.

Two years ago I was scammed on Ebay by sending personal payment to some seller. I filed a unauthorized payment claim against the seller, and miraculously won the case. Fed PP some BS story about kids in the household using my card, and pointed out that I had not received anything. The seller never replied to anything, which may have been a deciding factor in my case.

The rules say the seller is responsible for fees but many try to get out of it. The last few purchases I made the seller wanted to me to cover PayPal fees after I haggled the selling price down. Not sure what "right" is? I didn't quibble as I was buying ties for not much money. I wouldn't do that for suits or more expensive purchases.

Anyone else running into that? I doesn't bug me that much as I've never been burned by a seller in B&S.

Transaction can only be conducted when there is an agreement between a buyer and a seller. Seller can set the price they want (with or without fees), buyer can disagree and walk away. No one can make you unhappy without your consent.

Thanks, Razl. I'll do 10% for mentioning this thread.
I think that it's usually the norm for the seller to cover the fees but if you are negotiating a discount, then it's down to you and the seller.

While this is true sellers should consider all of their costs when pricing an item. It's just common courtesy IMO.

BTW, thanks for the mention razl!

If seller gets asking price I pay asking
But if I haggle I throw in 3% on top to cover sellers fees

Most sellers here are just trying to get $ backfrom a purchase they didn't like or outgrew , not flippers so it's a different mentality then someone who bought and sells with markup
