Boots made by Russell Moccasin Company -- experiences - Page 8

Sorry,  The Russell golf shoes are 11 C.  I have others that are 10.5, messed up.  PM me if you want a scan...

My Joe's PH boots arrived today. Have to say, I'm impressed and very happy with them. The fit and comfort are absolutely perfect. Finish is great as well, even better than the stock Art Carters I first bought and returned. Wasn't sure what to expect with the fergus trail leather but it's very nice - soft and substantial. Poron slip sole and the air bobs make for nice, soft walking. Just a great overall boot, sure to last a long time.

Rpiotr01, Nice!  I just got my fishing oxfords and kangaroo dv chukkas back from the spa.  Fit like butter and look like new.  Both 30 years young!

I've worn them through Maine winters and hiking throughout Maine and New Mexico, they're perfect. It didn't take long for them to form to my feet, and the insulation is a nice touch. I'll try and post some pics later.

I also own a pair of custom Grand Slam Sheep Hunters. Extra 2" height and toe cap, no insulation. Measured by RM and ordered them at the annual NRA convention in 07. I wear them for a month each year camping\grouse hunting between the BWCA and North Shore of Lake Superior in Northern Mn. and then a couple of weeks pheasant hunting in the pothole region of SD. They have seen a lot of miles busting brush and in extremely wet conditions. Awesome boot.

I need to get aboard this thread. I've seen some rm's in the wild and have been very impressed, esp. with the chukkas. They look old school, comfortable, classic. Looking to get a pair. May eventually order straight from russell but would love to nail down my size with a used pair. If anyone has some 9.5's their looking to get rid of I'd be interested.

The custom fit is worth it, if you can stand the wait. Or at least it's worth if if you've felt like most shoes were just a little bit off in the arches or the heel or the toes. Chukka's do look great, and they'll make them out of whatever leather you want. May go with a pair of those next, or maybe the trail shoe to replace an older pair of Timberland oxfords I wear occasionally.

Yeah, I should probably go custom. People have consistently said good things about the results of the custom footwear from Russell.

The mark-up for custom is hardly worth mentioning, but I find the wait (5 months or so now?) to be pretty discouraging. There is a couple of old chukkas on fleabay that really show how nice their leather can wear. Unfortunately, they're huge sizes.

If I do go custom, I'll go the whole hog and get the chukka made with their brown chromexcel. The pair posted two years ago by Curious George are essentially my grail chukka. Just amazing. (He still around? Would love to see those shoes now!)

I haven't taken a picture of them since then but changes haven't been all that drastic because they don't get a ton of wear. I have some foot problems that prevent me from wearing them frequently (for some reason even with insoles the chukkas bother my feet more when worn for long periods compared to my other Russells). Out of my three pairs of Russells my green chamois short PHs actually get the most wear.

Ha, I hadn't noticed those green low PH's posted back there were yours, too. They also caught my eye.

Thinking of placing a order for some custom boots.

Anyone know if I'm a 9.5 in Quoddys what size I'd be in Russel Moccasins?

Thanks smile.gif

I have a pair of 10.5 grizzly boots and my RM PH boots have a 9.5 stamped on them. It really depends though on your individual foot measurements. If you're ordering anything double vamp, expect to drop between 1/2 and a full size down. I'm normally a 10.5, but when I tried to but a pair of Art Carters from stock in a size 10, they were still a little long.

Edgein - can you post pics of your old russells?

When you guys got custom made boots, did you do the online measurements? And when you got your boots did they fit perfectly snug or were they a little roomy?

Trapp, Here you go...IMG_0348.JPG          I'd say 30 years young, just back from the spa.  As comfortable as it gets.

Not my favorite for long walks, not enough arch support for me.  Otherwise, they

are hard to beat, if you like the looks.  Fishing oxford and Kangaroo top dbl vamp chukkas.
