Best not to get a brush with a metal handle if you use very hot water. I always boil water in a tea kettle before I shave.

Happy owner of both a Simpsons Chubby 2 Super badger and a Major in Best badger. You cannot go wrong with either or both! My Major comes with me on the road and it is like an old friend when I put it to use. The Chubby is my daily work horse and never fails to please.

I've been an avid poster on the shaving forums for 2 years now, and have read good and bad 'reviews' of the Simpsons brushes. If memory serves me, many have had issues with Simpsons losing hair. I'm sure you could find a Plisson that doesn't have a metal handle. Sorry I can't be more help, but I am a die-hard Shavemac user. PS - Even though I haven't used either brush, I'd opt for the Plisson. And if you feel you must get an English brush...forget about Simpson and get a Rooney!!!! Also, you can sign up and haunt the shavemyface and/or badger and blade forums...members get to buy personalized brushes once a year. I have the "Shave My Face II" brush, a 26mm silvertip Shavemac with olive wood handle; very nice. For 110 bucks, can't beat it.

Yes, I've heard discussions about the Simpsons shedding; it seems their quality control is rather lacking.

Someone told me the Plisson metal handle is a light brush which I don't like. I prefer a heavier brush.

The problem I have with other English brushes is that the Simpsons's Major clearly has the superior design over the others.

I haven't finally decided as yet.
