Wow! not quite what i was expecting.

Greetings, Forumners. As I've mentioned before, I have very flat feet, courtesy of fallen arches, making my feet slightly wide. A narrow D-width is definitely too narrow, while a D running wide can work. What has always been a problem has been loafers. Prior to two weeks ago I only had one pair of loafers in my closet, a pair of AE Hinsdales (nice shoe, btw). My problem with most loafers is a heel counter that is too low, prompting me to step out of them, coupled with gapping quarters. Well, I was at a Neiman's recently and was intrigued by the Gucci and Ferragamo loafers. What I tried on did not quite fit, and I wouldn't pay retail for either. But this got me to thinking about eBay for something lightly used. I first picked up this pair of Ferragamo loafers: These were as advertised, but were too wide and also a little short, cramping my toes. Undaunted, I next sprang for these Gucci loafers: They arrived today, and they fit very well. They are Blake-stitched and have very nice leather soles. What was not obvious to me, however, though perhaps it should have been, is the fact that they are shiny black patent leather, with some sort of closely trimmed black fur tongue. Have any of you seen this model of Gucci loafer before? Any idea what the fur is? Finally, what would you wear them with? As I mentioned, they fit very well, and I am quite sure they are genuine. My wife has her younger sister and niece staying with us for the summer, and they think these loafers are "very cool." I'm 42, not 22, but have kept myself quite young appearing and figure I'll wear them with jeans and other casual trousers with some untucked, collared shirts. I welcome any thoughts you might have, even if it's to shout "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE."   As an aside, I did order a pair of the Martegani Medallion Toe shoes recently profiled, and am really looking forward to them. Take care. Jeff

The fur of the Gucci's is what would be termed "ponyskin." It is actually calfskin. Those would be best suited for something casual such as jeans.

Um, I'd say put them back on ebay...

The Ferragamos are very nice and seem like a good deal...

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE. I agree with A. Harris. As consolation, you didn't spend much on them, so at the very least they could be a novelty type item. They might be suitable for certain occassions, but it'd be a mistake to make them the loafers that you tend to wear with your jeans.
