McCarren & Sons: Gilt's $435 fake leather shoes

The boots I recently purchased (sold for $260 until a couple days ago, now selling for $199):

https://www.gilt.com/look/?s_id=846789d70e11b787560599bd33c6df0b97e2fd36b59bfcfe655e2fe3f2391b6b_1386533552539_1021573599&size_id=10015

They looked okay and I was looking for a winter suede boot. Material mentioned as "suede". Unfortunately, it's not. They have a strong plastic smell and the leather backing is cloth (unmistakable signs of fake suede). The lining is fake leather as well. They are extremely lightweight and the finishing is sloppy. No labels on materials (uppers/lining/sole), as is usually the case with "quality" shoes.

I asked GIlt about it. They said they will have to ask the maker. Turns out, Gilt IS the brand owner of McCarren & Sons: http://www.markhound.com/trademark/search/EXL73B6nE

Several days later, no response. I returned them, of course. Gilt declined to refund and only gave me Gilt credit. Predatory policy, for which I might speak to my credit card company.

Needless to say, I'm not ordering from Gilt again.

Lesson learned I hope. Thank you for sharing.

Gilt is the trademark holder of the brand but not the maker. A factory in Italy made these shoes based on the specifications the build order that Gilt provided.

They looked good enough and I was looking for a winter suede boot. Material mentioned as "suede". Unfortunately, it's not. They smell plastic and the leather backing is cloth (unmistakable signs of fake suede). The lining is also fake leather. They are extremely light and finicky. No labels on material composition, as is usually the case with "quality" shoes.

Correct--edited the original post. It's still ridiculous for them to say "We'll have to ask the manufacturer", when Gilt THEMSELVES have commissioned the shoes.
