Celeste Coffee Table at Gump's

What do you think of this table? It caught my eye, straight off. Not sure the design works, but this piece makes a statement. Here's the description:
In a dramatic contrast of shapes, this coffee table pairs a clean lined, squared off top with an elegantly curved base. The base is handcarved solid hardwood, finished with hand applied gold leaf; the top is handcarved solid mahagony, hand finished in glossy black lacquer. $2,250.

What a beautiful table. I love how the legs flow in through the rest of the body. Very nice.

JetBlast, I don't think I've ever seen a coffee table designed like this one. You've got this very strict flat surface, then a serpentine apron, flowing into curved legs. An indulgent piece. Still can't decide if the table turned out right. I wonder if the legs shouldn't have compressed inward, rather than to extend the tabletop's outline outward, as they have.

Kind of like Queen Anne meets the monolith from 2001.

Well, this is an odd table. No question. My cousin is an interior designer. Her house is done mostly, in Baker. I showed her this table. She's still thinking about it . . . but we'll give the designer encouragement for trying new things.
