Wow! I would love to get the sort of deals you do. Are they the par stripe line? From what I hear those are still Goodyear welted but have slightly lower quality uppers.

Yes, and upon closer reading I see that the Ludlow line are a different product that looks to be quite a bit higher quality as you said. In which case, perhaps $300 is not a bad price!

Huh. I went to Jcrew's website to check and it seems the Oar Stripe line is gone entirely? Interesting. I will have to watch out for deals on the Ludlows in the future.

They may have discontinued them- from what I remember the Oar Stripe line was less expensive from the get-go, around $200 vs. the Ludlows at $300. The margins might just not have been there for them?

This is really weird for me because I buy plenty of stuff from JCrew including shoes but I never noticed that there was a Ludlow line of shoes. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention but I looked through a few of them and all the reviews seem to be from 2014-2017 at the latest. Did they always have these in the lineup? I'm thinking maybe they dropped them for a while and are now bringing them back? When did they start selling Grant Stone directly?

They have had them for a while but seem to rotate though several different styles. I don’t know when they started selling Grant Stone direct but in addition they also sell Alden directly. I actually do not have a pair of Alden’s in my closet but obviously everyone always has good things to say.

I'm just thinking if these are made by Grant Stone maybe they dropped them for a bit when they started selling GS directly.

That could definitely be true. I have noticed that the Ludlow styles and Grant Stone styles never overlap...

...and now I see that Grant Stone is also no longer on the website as well, only Ludlow and Alden.

Just when I thought I was out (because I already owned everything worth owning from JCrew) they pull me back in!

Reading those posts from 2014 is pretty funny. $300 for JCrew shoes! I paid $74 for my J Crew Oxfords and they're...OK. I have better shoes for less.
I got three pairs of these. Bought the first ones at the J.Crew store IN LOS ANGELES quite heavily discounted… Within about a month lots of little crack lines on the leather uppers…I was very disappointed and J crew would do nothing about it. But I must say I did like the overall look and feel. So—Recently just got two more pairs on eBay. One for $10, one for $16… on Poshmark -The $10 pair showed up with the familiar leather cracking… But the $16 pair look beautiful. Had a pair of Alden‘s that were the same color -The ones these seem to be based on -and honestly these look just as good. If they hold up it would seem this line of shoe may simply be highly inconsistent as far as the quality of the leather - but if you can get them for the cost of a sandwich… It’s definitely worth trying your hand a few times till you find one that works.
