I honestly don't know, so hoping a maritime lawyer can tell us. Seems dumb to have ship with only hoses for defense.

a women slapped her daughter. somebody called the cops. the husband didn't comply when asked for id and instead brushed off an officer and walked towards his wife. 5 cops jumped him and beat him to death. they kept the family from him for several hours.

if a cop asks you for id do you have to give it to him? what if you said you didn't have id? they couldn't even search you to see if you did have id right?

There is no federal law requiring you to produce ID, but about half the states have "stop and identify" statutes that require you to produce ID. This has been upheld as constitutional by the US Supreme Court, even though I think it's a load of shit. In those states that have the stop and identify statutes and you don't have ID on you there is usually some provision that the pigs can take you into custody to verify your identity.

But ID is only required if you're being detained and not in a consensual conversation. To detain the cop needs reasonable suspicion a crime was just committed by you or about to be committed by you. Given the situation was the mom and adult daughter fighting I'm not sure how the husband was obliged to produce ID. /International Maritime Lawyer
