While making a general floor speech Gohmert was following the general script by intimating same sex couples might not be able to save humanity in an extinction level event. All was good and then he made this blunder thus removing his credibility and possibly ending his political career:

His membership in the "Young Earth Society" was instantly revoked.

A kid falls into a pit with a gorilla at a zoo, and the zookeepers shoot the gorilla to keep it from killing the kid, who is seriously hurt. And everyone on the internet is upset about the damn ape.

Falls into a pit? Or do you mean, "Went under a rail, through wires and over a moat wall to get into the enclosure, according to the zoo?"

The Internet should be upset about the poor gorilla's death, also the kid's death, but most importantly should be calling for the parents to be sterilized.

The Gorilla was a martyr and it was all about White Privilege,

Black Outrage Over Gorilla Shot To Protect ‘White Privilege’. Just One Problem…

The Gorilla's family deserves at least $6,000,000 like the families of Freddie Gray and Eric Garner.

The thought just occurred to me that if the zoo had gone slower in an effort to save the boy while trying to spare the gorilla and the gorilla had ended up killing the kid, could you imagine the lawsuit they would have faced from the boy's parents?

A regrettable business all the way around.

The thought occurs to me that while the western lowland gorilla is described as "critically endangered," about nine years ago new population numbering between 100 and 150 thousand was discovered around Lake Tele in the former French Congo. This would make the total number of these animals somewhere in the vicinity of 175K, which is more abundant than a great many large mammals.

All that would of been solved early if his father, uncle, or friend would of hooked him up with a hooker, or skank. Guessing he's always been an oddball, and not too many boys his age that were getting some wanted to be seen with him (especially girls.) He's too morose, and women can pick that up easier in person than online. If he just smiled a bit (not look miserable), and said hello... women wouldn't see him as unapproachable. He probably does gets hit on, and is too socially retarded to pick up the cues.

The boy was unhurt.

An investigation should be conducted into the details of how this happened, but I am not sure lynching the parents is called for yet. Even the best of parents have had a child slip out of sight. Once the boy was inside the rails they may not have been able to catch him before he fell into the moat.

It's sad that the gorilla had to be put down, but the zoo made the right call. Using a tranquilizer would have been too risky and saving the young boy's life was the top priority. I'm not sure what those expressing outrage on the intrawebs expected the zoo to do? Maybe some of these people need to take a step back and ask themselves what they would want to happen if their own child ever ended up in such a situation.

Agreed with Mouse.  Protecting the human's life should be the top priority.  Sad event though.

As an aside, I hate zoos.  I have hated zoos even as a kid.  It isn't a political thing or an animal rights thing or whatever.  I just have always hated them.

Zoo's have a way of bringing out the morons in society. Last time I was at a zoo a lady kept tossing food into the orangutan pit despite the signs warning against it. Wish I had caught on video the moment one of the animals tossed feces back at her into her face.

I like the idea of zoos, but they're usually miserable. A bunch of bored, stressed animals. Hordes of people. The smell of urine and shit.

My best zoo experiences were going on the DC zoo on the weekdays as a kid, and one visit to the otherwise lame zoo in Erie PA during a blizzard. We were literally the only people there. The animals, especially the cold weather ones, were acting very differently from what you'd normally see. The red pandas were play fighting with each other, pausing to shake off the snow. A bonobo actually walked over to the glass and put his hand up against it. The whole thing was just one of those experiences you don't easily forget.

It's a parent's job to keep track of their kids particularly in places with crowds and/or unsafe opportunities. I'm pretty sure I saw an eye witness interviewed this weekend and she stated the kid was arguing with the mother with the topic being the kid was going to get into the gorilla enclosure.
