Daily CE Musings of Piob - Page 226

Yeah. You can still download the DNA profile. 23andme just won't run the analysis on it. But there are other companies that will take a 23andme DNA profile and run a very similar analysis on it.

All 23andme ever did was check your DNA for certain genes that are correlated with health outcomes by various studies, anyway.

ETA: other than the straight up analysis for certain inheritable defects like cystic fibrosis.

A quick googling reveals that the quote is not only second hand, and from much later, but is altered and taken out of context. The point the guy was (allegedly) making was that getting rid of a million Irish wouldn't fix Ireland's underlying problems.

This seems to be the actual quote, from a man named Benjamin Jowett:
Quote:
'I have always felt a certain horror of political economists since I heard one of them say that he feared the famine of 1848 in Ireland would not kill more than a million people, and that would scarcely be enough to do much good."

That's a shame, I was hoping it was real.

Also, how many potatoes does it take to kill an Irishman?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
None

Can anybody with kids confirm this in other parts of the country - I've heard from over a dozen local parents that kids don't carve pumpkins in school or day-care anymore because they can't even have those shitty little carving knives. Now they "decorate" the pumpkin like a Mr. Potato head. I'm interested if this is a nation-wide thing.

It seems reasonable.  What if a pedophile walks into an elementary school and takes all those carving knives.  What then?  What about the children?

I think they gave us Pumpkins to take home, and than we would bring them all carved. Pretty sure some parents were carving those motherfuckers, and taking first prize.
