http://thelapine.ca/wear-an-i-love-harper-button-get-a-free-tim-hortons-coffee-timbits-starting-today/

This is kind of great. A satirical website has posted an article saying if you wear a button in support of current Canadian PM Stephen Harper you can get free shit at Tim Hortons. This article is obviously satirical but scroll down and read all the stupid shit Canadians are posting via FB.

A few examples from the comment section:
Quote:
So continually out of touch with what Canadians care about and how many are suffering...Marie Antoinette-styled "Let them eat Timbits"...Harper doesn't get it.

There should be another campaign. "We'll buy you TWO free coffees if you beat up a guy wearing the Harper button in a Timmies."

So Harper is spending 6 million taxpayer dollars with blatant bribery. If he was using his own party's campaign funding on this, I'd have a slightly less issue with it, so what is the funding source of this $6M program?

Well I always loved my Tims.. But not enough to lie and say I love Harper and wear a button or t-shirt for Harper.. Farewell Tims, it was nice while it lasted.. I am ashamed to know that you would support such a person that doesn't care about his Country but only about filling his own pockets..

Democrats in Mississippi nominate an unknown truck driver for governor. He says he assumes they picked him at random.

An unknown, Jackson man who spent no money on his primary campaign will be Mississippi's Democratic Candidate for Governor in November. 46-year-old Robert Gray received more than 50,000 votes than the party-backed, front-runner Vicki Slater.

It's safe to say Robert Gray is a political unknown for a vast majority of Mississippians, but during yesterday's Democratic Primary for Governor, the Jackson-based truck driver received more than 140,000 votes. The news took many people around the state by surprise, most notably the candidate himself, who was out of town and wasn't able to vote.

Gray says he believes people picked him at random.

"Actually, it wasn't too much campaigning," Gray says. "It was a couple of events, but even though my opponents did a lot of hard campaigning they only reached a few people. You know, it was just people showing up, voting and, I guess random, voting."

I present this as being funny, but in reality I expect there's a lot of crossover voting in primaries where local officials are on the ballot. In many areas of Mississippi everyone's still a Democrat.

Party affiliation aside, I'm not sure randomly picking unsuspecting folks isn't the better way to go, like picking stocks by throwing darts or whatever. Cuts a whole lot of noise and bullshit out of the process, including the dangerous delusion that we're smarter than we really are.

That would pretty cool, but only people who have had at least one job, and are over 35 should be eligible. Sorry. No millennials allowed.

A face to the name:

At least he turns out to be an actual Democrat:
Quote:
Speaking this morning to reporters on the third floor of the Capitol near the governor's office, Gray wore a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He said he hopes he didn't win because his opponents are women. Because his campaign-finance reports reflect no fundraising nor he did have a campaign website or social-media presence, Gray surmised that it might have been his common-sounding name that made 146,387 people vote for him over two better-financed opponents.

"Most people have a Robert in their family," he said. Gray doesn't believe his lack of engagement in his own candidacy means he is not engaged in the issues. Gray said he supports changing the state flag because it's hurting Mississippi's economy, fully funding public education and Medicaid expansion.

As far as picking random people to run the government, that's utterly insane. All you have to do is imagine an average person in charge, then remember that you've got a 50% chance of getting someone dumber.

Everyone's always so proud of their above-averageness.

And your hypothetical is incomplete. I recall the SF Weekly once describing the mayoral election as "a choice between a bucket of shit and a bucket of vomit".
Yes, eating a bucket of vomit is unthinkable. But if forced to choose between a bucket of shit and a bucket of vomit . . .

Besides, at least it'd be entertaining.

This is the bullshit international version. The only Indigenous Peoples Day I celebrate is the US holiday in October, not this fascist new world order UN shit.

There’s a pretty clear gender divide in how Americans deal with straight people who dabble in gay activity. When heterosexual women make out with one another at a bar or party, it’s generally understood that they’re simply playing around for attention, or exploring the fluid space that is female sexuality. When heterosexual men hook up with each other, on the other hand, it’s seen either as an act born of desperation — think men who are locked up — or an indication that while they may claim to be straight, they really aren’t — think disgraced GOP members of Congress. When straight women hook up with other straight women, no real explanation is required; when straight men hook up with other straight men, it’s a different story.

This divide stems from a common understanding of human sexuality: The female variety of it is more malleable, more inherently open to experimentation and variety, than the male variety. In Not Gay: Sex Between Straight White Men, out last month from NYU Press, Jane Ward, an associate professor of women’s studies at the University of California, Riverside, makes the case that this is a flawed understanding. In doing so, she shows that homosexual contact has been a regular feature of heterosexual life ever since the concepts of homo- and heterosexuality were first created — not just in prisons and frat houses and the military, but in biker gangs and even conservative suburban neighborhoods. Given how prevalent this behavior is in so many different sorts of settings, Ward suggest it’s time to stop explaining it away — and argues that society’s conception of male heterosexuality is an unrealistic, expedient one.

Paging Neo.

I call bullshit on homosexualocity in suburban neighborhoods.

Shots fired and someone dead at Ferguson protests.

Black mothers bringing their babies out to the police line, then screaming at the cops, "you want to kill my children"

Go home. Get some sense.

Shots were fired but no one reported dead as of 12:00 AM CST

They are ruining a peaceful day honoring the great American hero and martyr, Michael Brown.

Twitter feed has deceived me re: death.

Mike Brown wouldn't have wanted this.
