four-thirds cameras?

Have any of you camera nerds looked at these? I was pretty much set on going Nikon, but after reading the extremely favorable www.photozone.de (a site which is very rigorous in its testing methods) reviews of the olympus zukio optics for the open four-thirds standard, I find that I'm seriously considering that option. Pro-grade optics are significantly cheaper than on the canon and nikon systems and build quality is exceptionally high across the board. Honestly, there's less negativity in the Zukio reviews on photozone than on almost any nikkor lens I've read-up on. Nikon still has better bodies, but the successor to the tank-like E-1 will be out this year and in the meantime i may just buy an old E-1 or a new E-510 which should have better high iso performance... Anyone have any thoughts on this system?

The Leica four thirds lenes are also pretty nice.

You need to think into the future. Nikon and Canon's DSLR platforms have a long established track record across the entire photographic spectrum (amateurs to professionals). Their accessories and lenses will be around for a long time. The 4/3 format is brand new and there's no telling if it will have the legs for continued development in the future. That aside, it's not a bad format if you're willing to live with the 2x crop factor. If you shoot a lot of photos in the wider end of the focal plane you might find it difficult to get lenses that are wide enough for your needs.

How much wider than 11-22mm do you really need to go though? So far, thats as wide as you can get with a four thirds lens (zuiko), but for 99% of stuff, thats going to be way wider than you need. The Leica 14-150mm with the OIS seems like it would be a pretty versatile lens. Edit: Actually, it looks like there is a 7-14mm Zuiko lens for four thirds as well.

On a 4/3 camera, the 11-22 is only a 22-44. Wide, but if you're a landscape or nature photographer, that's just barely giving you the type of perspective you're looking for.
