Engineered Garments Spring / Summer 2014 - Page 81

Is anyone else having a problem at the Mohawk sale? When I put workaday chino in the cart, it shows full price. I just emailed them so may they can help. thanks

Anyone knows if the blue tone in the navy batik fits with the navy of the tropical wool Andover and cinch pants?
As I got the pants and the Andover I was thinking of getting the matching tropical wool vest to make a three piece suit - or make something more special out of it and go with the navy batik cinch vest instead as both are on sale.
What would you have done? Any other tips regarding accessories for ideas and inspiration is appreciated.

I received a reply from Mohawk

Hi Richard,
We are in the process of fixing this issue on the website. But if you want to place an order in the mean time we will accept the correct sale price amount when we manually process the order on Monday. So sorry for the confusion.

Best,

Mohawk General Store

shingles, I'd go for the tropical wool vest, I wouldn't necessarily say it matches exactly the tone in the navy batik but it should still look good and provide some balance when worn with that suit

another positive is that it will be infinitely more versatile to wear with other clothes than the print, also the tropical wool fabric is really really nice, light and breathable and wont fade if cleaned properly as opposed to the cotton batik fabric

heres a pic I found of navy batik and solid navy paired, looks good imho

Completely out of stock at all non-Asian stocklists that I could find. I didn't bother checking Asian stocklists, though.

Thanks, thought they had gone everywhere - will have a look on the Asian sites.

I think it can be done very well and the batik vest adds a nice touch. See below for a pic on how the fabrics and blues mix (Tropical wool thrown over blue batik) Agree with CSA that the wool vest is more versatile overall. In terms of alternatives, I would likely be thinking about adding an interesting shirt (Small floral in pink or blue?) or a crazier tie/ bow tie/ pocket square. Slightly higher hem, LWBs (Ravello, #8, black), no socks.

On the shorts and jacket thing, in my opinion, this is the "pull-offable" hierarchy. Your results may vary.

  1. Shorts and non-fabric matching jacket - Go for it, but needs some thought and details
  2. Solid fabric-matching shorts and jacket - Very hard but doable, needs to be perfect
  3. Prints/ pattern-matching shorts and jackets - Never

Mike

True, that's why I ended up with the wool Andover (was considering the batik) because of it's versatility. It's the same with the vest ofcourse.
Thinking about it most my vests are prints, the ones that's solids are hooded so the wool would probably be the safer choice. It's tempting to lean towards some of the more daring stuff too. I always appreciate something ventured, that's what makes that special EG twist I guess. Enough of my ramblings, I'll have to sleep on this I think.

Thanks Mike very helpful as usual. That's actually a great idea going with an interesting shirt, most of mine are f/w and too warm though, a unique tie could probably be enough. A quick release buckle will likely add a special touch as well and slightly rolled up hems and no socks is another great idea, didn't think of that but I think I'll go with that now. Cordovan Alden is a given wink.gif.
But what's up with the top buttons on the cinch vest? I'd prefer if they weren't there...

reg cinch vest:
shawl collar >> extra useless buttons

And I thought you had the batik suit but now I understand that you have the navy tropical suit, tough call then indeed but either way you cant loose
