Steve Maddens with Goodyear Welt Construction???

Ok, here is a bit of an introduction before this entire forum starts yelling at me for purchasing a pair of Steve Madden dress shoes: I recently decided that it was time for me to start dressing in quality, well fitting, and properly styled clothing so that I can look polished at work, and hopefully spend less on continuous replacements.

I splurged on a pair of Black Allen Edmonds Harrison cap-toe oxfords as my primary business shoes.

Then I realized that I did not want to wear these in the rain or in situations where I might need to break into a run or whatever, and as my old square toed clunkers had completely fallen apart, I figured I needed to purchase a cheap pair of rainy day dress shoes.

I happened across these black double monk strap shoes by Steve Madden called P-Lyfe on sale for $60 at 6pm.com

(here's the DSW link to the same shoes):

I decided that they looked decent, were a more casual alternative to my AE's (I generally wear business casual anyway) and I can afford to spend $60 on rainy day shoes.

When they arrived, I was surprised to see stitching on the sole:

I also saw some more subtle stitching along the top of the sole where the welt would go on Goodyear welted shoes.

Could it be that these are Goodyear welted? How can I tell if they are or are not?

They are not Goodyear welted. See how the sole stitching doesn't extend to the heel and how the stitches in the sole don't match what is on the top of the "welt" with regards to location (too far inside on the sole) or the number of stitches per inch.

Interesting...so they just put the stitches in for decoration?
